Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales follows up on the new universe Insomniac Games created, this time putting players in the shoes of the fledgling hero Miles. Taking place one year after the end of the first Marvel’s Spider-Man game, Miles has officially become Spider-Man, although he’s lacking in experience.

Insomniac’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales game is a bit of a shorter experience than its predecessor, but it seriously benefits from the PS5’s technology, with virtually seamless load times on the new console. Of course, Miles also has different powers then Peter, with his Venom Strike and invisibility really changing up gameplay.

With Miles being such a new hero, it might seem strange that Peter Parker is nowhere to be seen. For the sake of the story, though, the new Spider-Man has to solve problems himself, so here’s where Peter Parker is in Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Peter Parker Leaves New York In Spider-Man: Miles Morales

At the end of the City That Never Sleeps DLC for the first Marvel’s Spider-Man game, Mary Jane leaves to cover the ongoing war in Symkaria. Silver Sable, who plays a central role in the DLC, is from Symkaria. Peter and Miles work alongside each other for a while, but at the beginning of the game, Peter leaves New York to join MJ in Symkaria. Peter’s “working vacation” announcement is pretty abrupt, and it leaves Miles as the sole Spider-Man for the entire city.

While Peter says it’s to go on vacation, it’s possible that at some point players will learn he had an ulterior motive. At the same time, after eight years as Spider-Man, Peter has earned a bit of a break, especially as he’s trying to repair his rocky relationship with MJ. Although the game takes place in a new universe, traditionally in Marvel, Symkaria is next to the country of Latveria, which is best known as the home of Dr. Doom. So far, Insomniac’s Spider-Man has only featured characters actually from Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, but there have been plenty of references to the larger Marvel universe. The first game even had a Fantastic Four-inspired suit added post-launch called the Bombastic Bag Man. At some point, it seems likely that more heroes and villains will start appearing in Insomniac’s Spider-Man series. No matter what, it’s the perfect opportunity for Miles to grow and really come into his own as Spider-Man, which will lead into the next game.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is now available on PS4 and PS5.
