Catching Alpha Garchomp may be one of the biggest challenges players can take on in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but this powerful Dragon/Ground-Type is worth the effort it takes to capture it. Alpha Pokémon are much bigger and stronger than their average counterparts, and while this makes them a force to be reckoned with while exploring the Hisui region, they can also become the best Pokémon on the trainer’s team if players manage to catch them. However, Alpha Pokémon are also very aggressive and will attack the player as soon as they spot them, making them dangerous to approach without a strong team and a good strategy.

Like other Alpha Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Alpha Garchomp’s glowing red eyes set it apart from other Pokémon of its species, and players will have to be stealthy to avoid being spotted. In addition to their size and strength, Alpha Pokémon also have higher Effort Levels than regular Pokémon, and they learn moves by leveling that others can only learn from the Move Tutor in Jubilife Village, which makes catching them worth the challenge. Alpha Pokémon often drop useful items for leveling when caught or defeated as well, including EXP Candies and Grit Items that can strengthen the other members of the trainer’s party.

Alpha Garchomp can be found in the Avalanche Slopes area of the Alabaster Icelands in the bottom left corner of the map. This massive beast is the strongest Alpha Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus since players will encounter it at level 85, so it’s best to come prepared with a strong team of Pokémon before challenging Alpha Garchomp. However, trainers can also catch Alpha Garchomp without fighting it as long as they have the right supplies, but Alpha Garchomp will attack aggressively if it spots the player, so trainers should still bring a strong team in case they need to battle to catch it.

How To Catch Alpha Garchomp In Pokémon Legends: Arceus

To catch Alpha Garchomp without a battle in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players will have to sneak up without being spotted and hit it with an Ultra Ball or Gigaton Ball. Unfortunately, the snowy landscape of the Alabaster Icelands doesn’t offer many places to hide as they approach Alpha Garchomp, so crafted items like Smoke Bombs and Stealth Spray that can help keep the player concealed are crucial for capturing it. Like every catchable Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Alpha Garchomp can be distracted with foods like Honey Cakes or Bean Cakes, and players can throw these lures to get the Pokémon to turn its back so they can increase their chance of capture with a Backstrike.

If Alpha Garchomp breaks loose and spots the player, they’ll have to be prepared to battle it if they want to catch it. Alpha Garchomp has high Attack and Speed, as well as plenty of HP, which makes it a fearsome foe to challenge at any level. Its Dragon/Ground-Type makes it weak to Fairy, Ice, and Dragon-Type moves but resistant to Poison, Rock, and Fire, and it’s completely immune to Electric-Type attacks. However, players can counter it with a strong Fairy-Type Special Attacker like Gardevoir or a Defender with Fairy or Ice-Type moves that can stand up to its powerful attacks. If Alpha Garchomp faints in battle, players can get another chance to catch it by returning to Jubilife Village, which will cause it to respawn.
