In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players can find and catch a Cranidos, a rare ancient Pokémon that roamed the Hisui region even long before the event of the game began. Many players know Cranidos and its evolved form, Rampardos, as the Rock-type fossilized Pokémon that were originally introduced in Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl. Although Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place long before the events of either previous games, it’s still not quite far back enough to be in the time of history when Cranidos roamed the Hisui region freely.

One of the features of Pokémon games that take place in more modern times is the technological advancements that allow their scientists to revive fossil Pokémon. However, much like the natural habitat of Magnemite and Magneton in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, no such technological advancements can be found in the Hisui region at this time. Instead, players will have to rely upon Space-Time Distortions in Pokémon Legends: Arceus to bring Cranidos forward in time to the presence of trainers.

Space-Time Distortions in Pokémon Legends: Arceus are the phenomenons where Pokémon are brought through time and space to distinct locations across the Hisui region, be it from the past, the future, or another region altogether. For example, Johtoian Sneasel can appear in the Hisui region through the Space-Time Distortions, though they aren’t natively in the Hisui region during Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Conversely, fossils that are partially excavated in the Coronet Highlands in Pokémon Legends: Arceus show that Cranidos and Rampardos are natives of the land, and the Space-Time Distortions bring them forward in time.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus – How To Find & Catch Cranidos

Since Cranidos can only be found and captured in the Space-Time distortions of the Coronet Highlands, players will have to patiently wait for one to form to see if the fossilized Pokémon is around in Legends: Arceus. Cranidos is one of the rarest finds that players can capture in any Space-Time Distortion throughout the entire game, and it’s more likely than not that a Space-Time Distortion won’t even bring a Cranidos alongside with it. Unfortunately, there isn’t anything players can do to make Space-Time Distortions in Pokémon Legends: Arceus spawn more quickly, but players will need to clear the area of any outbreaks that may prevent them from forming altogether.

Players cannot breed Pokémon in Legends: Arceus, so the only way to complete the Pokédex entry for Cranidos is by catching as many as possible. Rampardos can also be found in the Space-Time Distortions of Coronet-Highlands, though the chances of finding one are just as rare, if not rarer, than finding a Cranidos in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is available now on Nintendo Switch.
