Where to Find More Mushrooms in Animal Crossing

With the Halloween season officially over, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players in the Northern hemisphere are officially into the harvest season. One of the typical fall and harvest aesthetics in the game is the appearance of mushrooms on players’ islands. Mushrooms can be used to craft various DIY furniture and items players can use to decorate their homes and public spaces on their island. Most crafting materials can be found in fairly predictable, consistent locations, but mushrooms work a little differently. Players are not able to dictate where and when they grow on the island, nor do they get much control over which varieties they will find.

Players can find five different kinds of mushrooms growing on their island during the month of November: elegant mushrooms, flat mushrooms, rare mushrooms, round mushrooms, and skinny mushrooms. Most can be found and picked on the ground, but the rare mushrooms can only be found by digging with a shovel. Players can sell mushrooms for extra bells in addition to using them in DIY recipes. While there aren’t ways to plant mushrooms and ensure they will grow on an island, there are certain places players can look to find more. Here’s where to look to find more mushrooms in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Where to Find More Mushrooms in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The kind of mushroom players are hunting for will determine where they should go to find more. Most mushrooms will grow around hardwood and pine trees on the island. They won’t typically appear around fruit trees. Players will find up to five around any of their pine and hardwood trees each day in November, with no more than 30 spawning at a time. To get more to grow, players will need to gather the ones that have already spawned.

Because of the way mushrooms spawn, players may want to consider moving any flowers or furniture they have near the base of their trees. Furniture and other items may obstruct a mushroom from growing there, limiting where players might find more.

Elegant mushrooms, flat mushrooms, round mushrooms, and skinny mushrooms can all be found around trees. The last mushroom variety, rare mushrooms, are not as common, as their name implies, and are only found by digging. These spawn less often and may not spawn every day, but there are ways for players to increase their chances. First, having a five-star island will affect how frequently players find rare mushrooms. Second, if players are noticing they are digging up fossils rather than mushrooms, they can game the system a little bit.

Players can only have six fossils buried at any one time, and once that capacity is reached, no more will spawn. Players can dig up and rebury six fossils to prevent more from spawning, increasing the chance they’ll come up with a rare mushroom instead. They will just want to keep track of where they buried the six fossils to make sure they don’t accidentally dig one up again.

Mushrooms are primarily used to craft the Mushroom DIY Set. There are twelve items in the set:

Players can also sell their mushrooms at Nook’s Cranny to make extra bells. The price breakdowns are:

• Flat Mushroom – 200 Bell
• Round Mushroom – 200 Bells
• Skinny Mushroom – 300 Bells
• Elegant Mushroom – 10,000 Bells
• Rare Mushroom – 16,000 Bells

Players only have until November 30 to collect mushrooms for crafting, so it’s a good idea to search the whole island every day and pick any they find.
