Kevin Smith became an indie sensation thanks to Clerks, his self-financed 1994 comedy about two slacker convenience store workers. Despite being shot for a tiny budget, Smith’s quotable dialogue and likable characters shone through, and he went on to make more cult favorites like Chasing Amy and Dogma, and his shared View Askewniverse drew its own loyal fanbase.

While 2001’s Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back was billed as the final movie for the title characters, Smith and co-star/best friend Jason Mewes have returned to the duo a few times over the years. Their most recent big-screen adventure was 2019’s Jay And Silent Bob Reboot, where they set out to stop a movie reboot of Bluntman V Chronic, a comic book based on them. The movie is brimming with cameos, including Chris Hemsworth, Rosario Dawson, Matt Damon, Val Kilmer and more. Another cameo is from Logan Lee Mewes, who features in Jay And Silent Bob Reboot’s surprise Ben Affleck cameo as Holden from Chasing Amy.

Holden was one of the co-creators of the Bluntman And Chronic comic, and while Jay and Bob run around “Chronic-Con” trying to stop the movie, they run into him. Holden reveals in Jay And Silent Bob Reboot that he and Joey Lauren Adams’ Alyssa are still close, and he donated sperm to her and her wife, and the three co-parent their young daughter Amy. Logan Lee Mewes plays Amy, and Holden talking about his experience as a parent inspires Jay to connect with his own estranged daughter Milly.

This was Kevin Smith’s favorite scene in Jay And Silent Bob Reboot, not least because it reunited him with Affleck after years of estrangement. Before Affleck agreed to return, Smith’s original version of the scene involved Jay seeing a young girl – also to be played by Logan  – dressed as Jay while her dad was cosplaying as Silent Bob. This was the original inspiration for Jay to connect with his own daughter, but the scene took on an even more emotional edge with the return of Affleck and Joey Lauren Adams.
