Here’s where to find Food Wars! The Fourth Plate online, including whether it’s on Netflix, Hulu or Prime. While anime come in all shapes and sizes, fantasy or action shows like One Piece, My Hero Academia or Demon Slayer tend to be the most successful. Anime revolving around cooking may sound more niche, but the success of series like Cooking Papa or Oishinbo shows it can be a successful subgenre. A case in point is the popularity of Food Wars! (AKA Sōma of the Shokugeki), which is based on the manga of the same name.

Food Wars! follows a teenager named Soma, who was brought up working in his father’s restaurant and is an extremely talented chef despite his age. Soma is later enrolled in Totsuki Saryo Culinary Institute, a school with impossibly high standards, who are often made to take part in intense cooking battles. Food Wars! hero Soma thus sets out to prove he is the best chef, with the various seasons charting his progress.

Food Wars! has proven to be a popular comedy since it debuted in 2015. Just like the Mads Mikkelsen fronted Hannibal made food a major co-star in its own right, Food Wars! sees its chefs prepare some incredibly delicious-looking dishes. One of the most famous aspects of the show is that when food is particularly tasty, the show vividly depicts the characters experiencing the flavor as some kind of erotic, fan service-friendly daydream. The fourth season Food Wars! The Fourth Plate arrive in 2019, and here’s where to find it online.

While most platforms have the show, not many actually have season 4. The first two seasons of Food Wars! are both streaming on Hulu and Netflix, but neither service has the fourth season. It appears the only place to find Food Wars! The Fourth Plate episodes online presently is either Crunchyroll or VRV. Season 4 isn’t available to purchase or rent digitally either.

Food Wars! itself ended with season 5 in 2020, fittingly titled Food Wars! The Fifth Plate. Like many shows, the last series was delayed by the pandemic, and the ending proved disappointing to many. Some reviews for the series were also mixed because of the aforementioned fan service sequences, though for the sake of balance, Food Wars! did this as often with its male protagonists as its female characters. While the ending didn’t satisfy everyone, the show still has a loyal cult following.
