What can Stargate Origins be found online and is it available on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime? The original Stargate is a 1994 sci-fi adventure starring Kurt Russell and James Spader and follows a team who travel through a mysterious gateway to another world. The movie was a surprise success and talk of a sequel quickly emerged. However, director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin moved on to other projects like Independence Day, so the franchise took to TV instead.

Stargate SG-1 continued on from the events of the movie and proved hugely successful, ultimately running for ten seasons and a couple of DVD movies. It expanded the mythology too, introducing new villains and worlds, and fans grew attached to the titular team, led by Richard Dean Anderson’s dryly humorous O’Neill. At the height of the franchise’s popularity it spawned two high-profile spinoffs in Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate: Universe, with the latter’s cancellation after only two seasons marking the end of an era.

Fans of the series have been awaiting a big revival, either of Stargate SG-1 or the movie franchise, but while rumors of one crop up occasionally there’s no concrete news of a reboot. The most recent entry proved to a disappointment to many, with Stargate Origins acting as a prequel to the saga. The story follows a young Catherine Langford – a key figure in both the movie and SG-1 – and a team setting off through the gate for the first time to stop a Nazi plot.

Stargate Origins’ plot required some serious retconning to work, but it ultimately suffered from a weak script and cheap production values. This webseries was created as an exclusive for the now-defunct Stargate Command streaming platform, and all its episodes – which ran for ten minutes apiece – were later compiled into a feature-length adventure dubbed Stargate Origins: Catherine. The series can’t be found on the likes of Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime, but the movie can be found on Hoopla, according to JustWatch.

Stargate Origins: Catherine is also available to rent or purchase from other platforms, including YouTube, Vudu, Google Play, Redbox and others from prices starting at $3.99. Stargate Origins was created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Stargate SG-1 but it’s hard to recommend it to anything but dedicated fans of the franchise. The cast of SG-1, including Amanda Tapping and Richard Dean Anderson, have stated they’re open to a revival, which seems like the obvious route for a franchise reboot if one happens.
