Syfy’s The Magicians was one of the most underrated fantasy shows of the last few years. Based on a series of books by Lev Grossman, it aired its final season earlier this year. Often described as a cross between Game Of Thrones and Harry Potter, the show was praised for its intricate mythology and unpredictable storylines.

Impressively, the show had a range of complex and progressive characters that made them unforgettable to the show’s small but dedicated fanbase. Therefore, here is a list of The Magicians characters based on their zodiac sign.

12 Aquarius – Elliot

Those born under the Aquarius sign are well-known for having a certain brightness and energy to them that easily attracts people and very few people met Elliot without immediately liking him.

Charming, open-minded, and creative, Elliot represented the best parts of the Aquarius sign. However, he could also be impulsive and conceited which led to him shooting the monster at Castle Blackspire. Importantly, like many Aquarius, he also had a deep sense of self-doubt which often made him unwilling to be honest about his emotions.

11 Pisces – Quinton

The loyal, empathetic, and sensitive Quinton made for a perfect Pisces. Idealistic yet intelligent, Quinton more than anyone else understood the real beauty of magic. Unlike many of the other characters who saw magic as a means to an end, he reveled in its intricate and fantastical nature.

Like many Pisces, Quinton’s intense and complex emotions could lead him into a depressive state. Therefore, he always found ways to escape from reality, as he had done with the Fillory Books.

10 Aries – Marina

As one of the zodiacs linked to the fire element, Aries has a turbulent and unpredictable nature. Marina, the fierce former head of the Hedge Witches showed just how powerful an Aries could be.

Conniving and a natural leader, Marina was always one of the most dangerous magicians on the show. However, there were also certain positive qualities about her that were often ignored, like her courage, skill, and passion for magic.

9 Taurus – Julia

Those born under the Taurus sign are well known for their stubbornness. In Julia, this reflected in her never give up attitude, even after going through the darkest of pains. Sadly, her persistence sometimes led to terrible decisions like working with The Beast.

Intelligent, practical, and ambitious, Julia was an incredibly talented magician. Notably, Julia also had the heart of a hero, which combined with her sense of empathy and loyalty made it clear why she was once a Goddess.

8 Gemini – Josh

If there is one character on the show that just wanted to have a good time, it was Josh. Outgoing, adaptable, and often very enthusiastic, Josh provided much-needed lightness in an often dark show.

Like many Gemini, Josh was underestimated intellectually and was actually a skilled and thoughtful magician. As with many Gemini in a relationship, he was able to bring out a softer side of Margo. Sadly, Josh’s antics sometimes made him come off as immature and annoying.

7 Cancer -Fen

Often considered the most nurturing of all the signs, Fen perfectly represented the Cancer spirit. Caring and loyal, Fen was the silent helping hand. Often underestimated, Fen’s intuitive nature and energetic spirit made her a must needed ally.

Like most of the Cancer personality types, Fen valued family above all else and viciously protected them. Therefore, it is easy to see why the loss of her daughter completely broke her spirit and mind.

6 Leo – Margo

Leos are often considered to be the ultimate leaders and High King Margo the Creator, was certainly one of them. Passionate, ambitious, and dominant, Margo initially struggled to embrace her leadership qualities.

At first, she represented many of the negative Leo traits such as arrogance, stubbornness, and impulsiveness which led to some terrible consequences for Fillory. However, over time, she grew into the brave and dynamic leader that her people needed.

5 Virgo – Alice

The highly intelligent, creative, and diligent Alice was one of the most powerful and accomplished magicians in the series. As with all Virgos, she was a headstrong perfectionist and no one could stand in her way once she had a plan going.

Alice, as with many Virgos, became frustrated and dangerous when she felt idle and useless. Regrettably, Alice also embraced Virgo’s overcritical and judgemental nature, which meant she held herself and others to a sometimes impossible standard.

4 Libra – Dean Fogg

Often known for their deal-making capabilities, Libras believe that there is a way for everyone to get what they want. Clever and a natural negotiator, Dean Fogg always put the needs of Brakebills and its students first, even if it meant conspiring with the Library.

Unfortunately, Dean Fogg, like many under the Libra sign, could be conceited and would sometimes manipulate others for his own gain. This would make him an unreliable and untrustworthy ally.

3 Scorpio – Kady

Kady was one of the most mysterious characters on the show. Like many Scorpios, very few people knew the real her. Resourceful, brave, passionate, and highly talented, it was always better to have Kady on your side than against you.

Sadly, due to her upbringing, she was distrusting and struggled to make real connections with people. However, when she did, like with Julia and Penny, she was totally dedicated and loyal.

2 Sagittarius – Penny

Sagittarius is often called the traveler sign, therefore it is easy to see why Penny would be a Sagittarius. Independent, strong-willed but also dedicated to the cause when needed, Penny had the heart of an adventurer.

Penny unfortunately also exhibited some of the worst Sagittarius traits. He was brutally honest which made him unpleasant to be around, while also being impatient which led him to make reckless decisions.

1 Capricorn – Fairy Queen

Capricorns are well known for their sense of duty and responsibility and no character better illustrated this like the Fairy Queen. Smart, disciplined, and ambitious, the leader of the fairies quickly became a formidable antagonist.

Often seen as cold and insensitive, Capricorns don’t publicly show their emotions. However, Capricorns like the Fairy Queen, care deeply and strongly for those that they are responsible for and are willing to do anything for them, even if it means sacrificing themselves.
