Who bought Avengers Tower in the MCU? Having first appeared as the Stark Tower in The Avengers, the building eventually became the headquarters for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, which was the same purpose it served in modern Avengers comics. Later on, the team stopped using it as a base, and it was briefly mentioned by Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) in Spider-Man: Homecoming that Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) sold it. The purchase apparently occurred sometime after the events of Captain America: Civil War.

One thing that was never said in Spider-Man: Homecoming, or in any other MCU movie, is who bought Avengers Tower from Tony Stark. It could be that the identity of its new owner is irrelevant and that this matter may never be brought up again. Or, the reveal that Avengers Tower was sold could be important in some way to Marvel’s future. Many have theorized that the person who bought the building from Stark is a Marvel Comics character that the MCU movies haven’t introduced yet.

Any character or organization that could make such a hefty purchase would certainly have to be incredibly wealthy. It’s likely that the buyer, whoever they may be, is a well-respected figure who holds a considerable amount of power in the MCU. With their wealth, they could use it to do good in the MCU, or they could become a dangerous new adversary for the heroes. Either way, it may be that a future film or Disney+ series will officially unveil this character and reveal what his or her intentions are. Here’s every theory on who bought Avengers Tower from Iron Man.

Fantastic Four

One of the leading theories about the Avengers Tower’s new owner is that it was purchased by the MCU’s Reed Richards for the Fantastic Four. If so, the building could be rebranded as the Baxter Building in Phase 5. In Marvel Comics, the Baxter Building is the 35-story headquarters of Marvel’s First Family. It’s been the base of operations of the group since the early 1960s, making it a major locale in the Marvel Universe. Considering that Marvel will eventually adapt the team to the MCU, Marvel is sure to incorporate the Baxter Building. Marvel could of course just have this be a completely new location, or they could retool an old one by using Avengers Tower, which would be a much more interesting direction. If this is the case, it could resume its role as the headquarters of a superhero team.

Norman Osborn

Norman Osborn, one of the richest and most nefarious characters in Marvel Comics, could have purchased Avengers Tower to be a place of business for his company, Oscorp. So far, there’s no proof that he even exists in the MCU, but given how important he is in the comic books, there’s a widely-held opinion that it’s only a matter of time before he appears. Though as the Green Goblin, he has a reputation as Spider-Man’s greatest enemy, he’s so much more than that. With his wealth and power, Osborn has evolved into a villain of the Marvel Universe as a whole, having been in conflict with various teams of Avengers, Asgard, and more.

There was another event aside from the purchase of Avengers Tower that has been counted as a sign that Norman Osborn is coming. Sonny Burch (Walton Goggins) in Ant-Man and the Wasp wanted to buy Hank Pym’s shrinking tech on behalf of an unnamed character. It’s not hard to imagine someone like Norman Osborn having designs on Hank Pym’s Pym Particles. It’s also been suggested that Osborn may have bought some of the salvaged alien technology that Vulture (Michael Keaton) acquired prior to Spider-Man: Homecoming. If the buyer is Osborn, his arrival in the MCU could be confirmed in Spider-Man 3. But if Peter Parker (Tom Holland) has his hands full with interdimensional foes in the upcoming movie, Osborn’s MCU debut could be saved for a villainous role in Avengers 5.

Moon Knight

Some have wondered if Avengers Tower was bought by Moon Knight, who is set to get his own Disney+ show in Phase 4. Marc Spector having the funds to pull this off doesn’t seem unfeasible when looking at his comic book backstory. In Marvel Comics, Spector’s mercenary activities earned him a great deal of money, which he was able to use to fund his exploits as Moon Knight. Spector adopted the fake identity of millionaire Steven Grant and bought a large estate. It could be that Marvel’s Moon Knight series will revisit Avengers Tower and reveal that MCU’s Mark Spector is even richer than his comic book counterpart. Possibly by selling priceless artifacts found during his adventures in Egypt, Spector could have amassed a fortune for himself, and is now living in Avengers Tower. Though it may be unlikely that the MCU’s Moon Knight could be this wealthy, there’s at least a slim possibility that he’ll be using the building as a base in his Disney+ series.

Dario Agger

One theory postulates that the Avengers Tower buyer is Dario Agger, the CEO of Roxxon, one of the most powerful corporations in both the comics and the movies. Dario Agger, who has the ability to transform into a legendary Minotaur, is a key Thor villain who has gone up against both the God of Thunder himself and the Jane Foster version of Thor. His history with both characters has made him a contender for Thor: Love and Thunder’s villain. It could be that if and when Thor (Chris Hemsworth) returns to Earth and meets Dario Agger, he’ll find out that his company is now based out of the building that was once the Avengers’ base of operations.

Marvel may have been building toward Roxxon being an enemy of the MCU’s heroes for a long time now. They’ve been utilized as antagonists in shows like Agent Cater and Cloak & Dagger. Plus, the company has been name-dropped in a number of Marvel movies. Marvel could finally pay off all its Roxxon references in Phase 4 by making Dario Agger the villain of Thor 4.

Doctor Doom

If Avengers Tower isn’t the new Baxter Building, it could still play a part in the setup for Marvel’s Fantastic Four movie. Their archenemy, Doctor Doom, is traditionally based in his own country – Latveria – but he has been known to expand his operations to other places in the world. The MCU’s Victor von Doom could own property outside Latveria’s borders. Avengers Tower in New York City could even be where Doom’s MCU story will begin. Doom’s activities in the city may be what starts his battle with Mr. Fantastic, The Thing, Human Torch, and Invisible Woman in Fantastic Four. Alternatively, Marvel may introduce Doom earlier than expected by giving him an MCU cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
