As WandaVision nears its end, it’s getting increasingly clear that Scarlet Witch is willing to do just about anything to preserve the illusion of her pocket reality, but there are a few people who could stop her. Eventually, the Westview barrier needs to come down and she has to be defeated. With two-thirds of the season already released, Marvel Studios’ first TV series for Disney+ is slowly reaching its climactic end, which will be reminiscent of a traditional final act battle in the MCU movies despite having a more unique start. Given this, expect a full-blown action set-piece that will more likely involve Wanda attempting to keep Westview the way it is. The question is, who could be her potential adversary?

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Following a sitcom-inspired first few outings, the real story of WandaVision has been starting to unspool since episode 4’s turning point which first established the outside world. Since then, it has implemented a dual storytelling format as it tackles the narrative from both sides of the Westview hex. What has been clear from the get-go is, Scarlet Witch is strongly attached to this fantasy reality she has seemingly created but may not be fully in control of. She’s been protective of it, pulling off various tricks over the course of the show to preserve the illusion — from rewinding time to get the outcome she wanted to straight-up threatening people from the outside, particularly Hayward and SWORD, to leave her and the town alone. Now that she also has her twin sons Billy and Tommy inside the hex, she has become much more territorial about her pocket reality.

Unfortunately for Wanda, it’s just a matter of time before the hex around Westview has to come down, especially after it significantly expanded in episode 6, “All-New Halloween Spooktacular!” Not only does this make the pocket reality more dangerous to the fabric of MCU’s reality, but it also establishes just how powerful Scarlet Witch has become to do this in a snap. Considering how indifferent she’s become to everyone else but herself and her family, someone will have to step into the situation to stop her from this madness and there are several candidates for the job.

Vision

The most obvious threat to Wanda’s fantasy world is Vision himself. Early on in WandaVision, Scarlet Witch was able to easily manipulate her husband to simply go through the motions of her ideal family life, but as he experienced more bizarre things in Westview, he’s become increasingly suspicious of his wife. This caused the couple’s intense confrontation in episode 5 where he revealed that he remembers nothing about his life before they came to Westview. Couple that with his separate odd encounters with Herb and Norm, not to mention Wanda’s own weird behavior, and the synthezoid spent most of the latest episode wandering through town to find some answers. At the end of the same outing, he’s firm in knowing that everyone in town is in some kind of spell and he’s determined to reach out to the outer world to help them. It’s uncertain what his next move will be following his near-death experience trying to come out of the hex, but he promised Agatha that he will make things right, and chances are that he will stick by that.

What’s interesting here is whether or not Vision will be able to accomplish his goal without setting up a fight between him and Scarlet Witch. Both of their powers were technically derived from the Mind Stone, but with Vision’s true state unknown, it’s difficult to say how he’ll fare in a one-on-one against Wanda. Otherwise, he can also achieve this by appealing to Scarlet Witch’s humanity; that way, there’s no massive fight between them in WandaVision.

Tommy & Billy

Tommy and Billy’s arrival reinforced Wanda’s investment in Westview’s fantasy world. The introduction of the pair is more likely a set-up for MCU’s Young Avengers with the brothers exhibiting their signature powers in the comics during WandaVision‘s latest episode. Tommy and Billy’s special abilities reflect that of the Maxmoff twins: the former has Quicksilver’s super speed, while the latter has various mystical skills like Scarlet Witch. While they have been obedient to their mother thus far, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that they’ll be the ones to stop her from holding the people of Westview hostage once they find out what’s really happening in their community.

One big indication this is a plausible scenario is the fact that Scarlet Witch is unable to control her twins using her powers. This means that they likely have the autonomy to process information and come up with their own conclusions. Billy has even already seen glimpses of the world outside of Westview in episode 6 thanks to his clairvoyance locating Vision outside the barrier and it’s only natural for kids to want to explore and rebel. l If the twins learn the truth about what Wanda did to Westview, they might share the same sentiments that their father has and force her to give up this illusion in WandaVision. Billy, in particular, can be instrumental in defeating Scarlet Witch as he’s already showed massive potential with regard to using his magical abilities; with more time and training, he might be able to rival and even surpass Wanda’s sorcerer skills.

Monica Rambeau

Another possible candidate to defeat Wanda is Monica Rambeau. As the only person thus far who has been in and out of the hex, she has firsthand information about what it’s like being under Scarlet Witch’s control in Westview. Since she was forced out of the bubble, she’s been working with Jimmy Woo and Darcy Lewis to find a way to reach out to Scarlet Witch despite Hayward’s insistence that Wanda is a threat to be eliminated. In the latest episode, Monica was trying to re-enter Westview with the help of her aerospace engineer friend. It’s uncertain if she’s going to succeed in this endeavor especially after Wanda significantly expanded her hex’s reach; nevertheless, she could be key in taking down the mystical barrier and even defeating Scarlet Witch thanks to Monica’s hinted-at new powers. WandaVision is already setting up her eventual debut as a superhero, potentially as Spectrum, who can generate, absorb, and manipulate energy, allowing her to go head-to-head against Wanda.

Doctor Strange

All the aforementioned characters have encountered Wanda one way or another in the MCU, but someone else she hasn’t even technically met before could ultimately defeat and force her to take down the Westview hex in WandaVision: Doctor Strange. As the most powerful known sorcerer in the franchise thus far, Strange might be the only one well-equipped to fight Scarlet Witch in a way that doesn’t create more possible chaos in the universe. Since he has the ability to trap her in a mirror dimension, the pair can go toe-to-toe without any collateral damage. While Scarlet Witch’s powers and abilities have only gotten stronger in the last few years, Strange has better control over his powers as seen in the myriad number of ways he used it against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. It helped that he had proper training from the Ancient One in Kamar-Taj even though he’s also learned new tricks on the field. Strange coming in at the very end of WandaVision effectively ties the show to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness where Scarlet Witch is already confirmed to appear – though maybe not as a protagonist.
