The second episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier introduced Lemar Hoskins a.k.a. Battlestar, John Walker’s right hand, but who plays this new character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Now that the Infinity Saga came to an end, the MCU continues to adapt to a world post-blip and without Iron Man, and the highly-anticipated Phase 4 will not only cover movies but also TV/streaming. Marvel has a long list of TV projects coming up, which will have connections with the movies in this new wave, starting with WandaVision and now moving on with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Set a couple of months after the events of Avengers: Endgame, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier follows Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) who is still struggling to decide whether or not to take on the mantle of Captain America, and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), who continues to fight with his past as the Winter Soldier. The first episode ended with a big reveal, as Sam gave the Captain America shield up but wasn’t counting on the government appointing someone else as the new Captain America: John Walker, played by Wyatt Russell.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

John Walker is a high-ranking member of the military and was chosen as the new Captain America thanks to his skills and merits. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 2 saw Walker in action for the first time and introduced his right hand, Lemar Hoskins (codename: Battlestar), his friend and fellow soldier. This is Hoskins’ first appearance in the MCU, and he’s played by Canadian actor Clé Bennet, who is also new to the Marvel universe, but he’s no newcomer in the entertainment industry. Bennet’s big-screen debut arrived in 1998 with the slasher movie Urban Legend (though in a minor role), and that same year he appeared in two TV movies: Mr. Music and Naked City: A Killer Christmas.

Clé Bennet has since appeared in various movies from different genres, such as the action-comedy Bait and the comedy-drama Barney’s Version, with his most recent works being Jigsaw (where he played Detective Keith Hunt) and Lucky Day, where he played Leroy. In the realm of television, Bennet’s list of projects is more extensive, and he has appeared in both TV shows and TV movies, in minor and main characters. Among his most notable TV projects are La Femme Nikita, the animated series Total Drama (where he voices a variety of characters), Flashpoint, Sensitive Skin, Heroes Reborn, Homeland, The Man in the High Castle, and the TV movie Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, where he played the infamous singer R. Kelly.

Given the partnership between his and Wyatt Russell’s character in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, along with his role in the comic books, Marvel fans will get to see more of Clé Bennet and Battlestar in the rest of the show, and depending on where the story will take him, he could have a bigger (or at least recurrent) role in the MCU as this universe keeps expanding.
