Warning: SPOILERS for Loki episode 2.

Loki episode 2 introduces Lady Loki, the evil variant the Time Variance Authority recruited Loki to hunt down, and she’s played by Sophia Di Martino. Although the series’ main Loki variant – the one who disappeared with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame – gets the primary focus, he’s certainly not the only version to grace the Marvel Cinematic Universe; it seems it’s almost a past time for TVA agents to apprehend Loki variants and reset them. However, there’s one that’s been avoiding capture.

Easily the most different Loki variant in the series thus far, the colloquially-named Lady Loki is taking the TVA head-on by exploiting a loophole in the organization’s control of the Sacred Timeline. By hiding out in apocalyptic events, Lady Loki can do practically anything while hiding in plain sight. But as for her plan, it seems she’s attempting to jumpstart another multiverse – the TVA believes that if any temporal event reaches critical and crosses the red barrier, a multiverse could form and potentially lead to another multiversal war.

Lady Loki would appear to be at the forefront of this mission, with her creating multiple nexus events at the end of episode 2 by sending several reset bombs to various places and points in time. And in just a few short scenes, Lady Loki established herself as a force to be reckoned with; after all, not even Loki could take on the TVA. Lady Loki is played by Sophia Di Martino, an English actress who’s mostly well-known for her work on TV series such as Flowers, Mount Pleasant, and more. She recently appeared in the film Yesterday as Carol and in the series Into the Badlands as Lily.

Prior to all that, Di Martino had big breaks by starring in British medical dramas and soap operas The Royal Today and Casualty. In 2020, she starred in Silent Witness, in which she played Claire Ashby. But her most recent work ahead of her Loki episode 2 debut was the film Sweetheart, a UK comedy-drama by Marley Morrison that released in March 2021. It’s unclear where Di Martino goes from here in the MCU since her character’s story and trajectory is currently unknown. Given the potential of the multiverse and the possibility of Loki season 2 happening, Di Martino could return as Lady Loki (or someone else) down the line.

At the moment, there’s a great deal that’s unknown about who Lady Loki is. She’s supposed to be an alternate version of Loki, but she doesn’t work the same way as the other Lokis do – even the main Loki takes notice of her using somewhat rudimentary magic – nor does she like being called Loki. Many fan theories believe she’s really Enchantress who’s masquerading around as Loki, and if that turns out to be true, then there’s certainly more that can be done with Di Martino’s character.
