Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Book of Boba Fett episode 6.

More layers of Grogu’s Order 66 survival have been revealed in The Book of Boba Fett episode 6, as flashbacks show the fallen Jedi who died protecting him while still hiding who saved Baby Yoda. The Star Wars franchise is built around a few massively important moments, such as Luke Skywalker starting his path to become a Jedi or the rise, fall, and redemption of Anakin Skywalker. Order 66 is one of the biggest parts of the galaxy far, far away’s history, as the hierarchy of the universe changed when Emperor Palpatine revealed himself and had his clone army begin killing the Jedi they previously fought alongside.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith introduced the concept of Order 66 as George Lucas’ explanation for the fall of the Jedi before the original trilogy. Since then, it has been featured in various parts of the expansive multimedia Star Wars canon. Animated shows Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: The Bad Batch showcased elements of the event, as did the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and countless comics and books. Once The Mandalorian introduced Baby Yoda as a Force-sensitive youngling, the question of how Grogu survived Order 66 arose. Creators Jon Favreau and Jon Favreau have only briefly teased the details surrounding Baby Yoda’s past, including who saved Grogu during Order 66.

Some additional details surfaced during The Book of Boba Fett episode 6, though. After The Mandalorian season 2 featured Ahsoka explaining fractions of Grogu’s backstory, The Book of Boba Fett had Luke Skywalker initiate some flashbacks by helping Baby Yoda remember his past. The new flashes of Grogu’s backstory don’t fully explain what happened to the young Jedi padawan, but some new information does come to light. Here’s an explanation of The Book of Boba Fett‘s fallen Jedi in the flashbacks and the tease of someone saving Grogu from Order 66.

Who Were The Jedi Who Die In Grogu’s Order 66 Flashback?

When Grogu’s Order 66 flashbacks begin in The Book of Boba Fett episode 6, viewers get to see the three Jedi who died protecting Baby Yoda from an army of clone troopers. The show doesn’t directly identify any of the three Jedi, even if it provides a few clues about their possible identities. The main Jedi protecting Grogu is a human man with long blonde hair and a green lightsaber. There are two other Jedi who appear to be human or humanoid, but other details about their appearance are concealed by the Jedi robes. One of them has a blue lightsaber, and the other has a green lightsaber. The three Jedi put up a fight at first but are eventually overwhelmed and killed by the clones as part of Order 66.

The Book of Boba Fett doesn’t credit these Jedi as any specific characters from the franchise’s established canon, leaving their identities a fairly big mystery. Various canon materials have done a great job of showing which Jedi survived Order 66 and those who died. Those who are confirmed to die at the Jedi Temple during Order 66 have all had their deaths shown and explained, and Boba Fett‘s three Jedi aren’t a match. However, there is still a long list of Jedi who appeared before Order 66, whose fates aren’t confirmed. Future content may reveal that these three Jedi are smaller characters previously featured in a movie, show, comic, book, or video game, but they could just as easily be brand new characters created for Grogu’s origin story.

Did A Jedi Save Grogu From Order 66?

There is so far no direct confirmation in The Mandalorian or The Book of Boba Fett about who saved Grogu after these three Jedi died. The common assumption is that it did take a powerful Jedi to save Baby Yoda. This not only makes the most sense since he is in the Jedi Temple, but The Book of Boba Fett episode 6 shows the clones coming to get him are quite formidable. If these troopers can take down three Jedi, then the idea of a non-Force user ultimately saving Baby Yoda seems a bit far-fetched. That opens up the possibility for some well-known Star Wars characters to play a role in Baby Yoda’s backstory.

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda can be ruled out from saving Baby Yoda since they weren’t at the Jedi Temple during Order 66, and Ahsoka Tano also wasn’t around to save Grogu. Someone like Jocasta Nu, the Jedi Order’s librarian, would make sense since she was stationed at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. There is a chance any number of Jedi temporarily stepped in to keep Baby Yoda safe, only for someone else to discover him. The minimal details on Grogu’s Order 66 survival make just about anything possible, including a reveal like Mace Windu survived Palpatine’s attack and returned to save Baby Yoda.

Who Else Could’ve Saved Grogu From Order 66

If a Jedi didn’t ultimately save Grogu from Order 66, then the possibilities expand even further. Instead of a Jedi, one popular theory is that a Jedi-adjacent character protected Baby Yoda. R2-D2 was on Coruscant around the time that Order 66 happens and could be familiar with Grogu due to the droid’s time spent with the Jedi Order. The Mandalorian season 2 potentially hinted at this reveal, as it seemed like R2-D2 recognized Grogu in the finale. That could be a result of their shared history with the Jedi, but perhaps R2 is also happy to see The Child survive after saving him all those years ago.

There is also a theory that the Bad Batch could’ve saved Grogu from Order 66 if Star Wars gives a non-Jedi answer to this question. The specialty group of clones wasn’t on Coruscant during Order 66, as they instead played a role in saving Caleb Dume, a.k.a. Kanan Jarrus, during Order 66. However, their many adventures could potentially include visiting the Jedi Temple to retrieve Grogu. The same mission could even have applied to bounty hunter Cad Bane, who appeared in The Book of Boba Fett episode 6 too.

When Will Star Wars Reveal Who Saved Grogu From Order 66?

Thanks to The Book of Boba Fett‘s latest teases of Grogu’s backstory, it hopefully won’t be too long before a Star Wars property reveals who saved him during Order 66. It seems unlikely that The Book of Boba Fett episode 7 will provide the long-awaited answer to this mystery, which means viewers will need to wait for future installments of the Jon Favreau corner of the franchise. The best bet is for The Mandalorian season 3, revealing who saved Grogu from Order 66. If it doesn’t happen in the next chapter of this story, Ahsoka may provide the answer. Rosario Dawson’s show could feature plenty of Jedi backstory, so unearthing Baby Yoda’s savior would make sense. Ultimately, viewers shouldn’t worry about this information coming in a book or comic, as The Book of Boba Fett or another The Mandalorian-adjacent project will be where the reveal happens.
