The Resident Evil universe is full of exciting characters that truly pop on the screen. Whether it’s fan-favorite protagonists like Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, or villains like Ramon Salazar and Jack Baker, Capcom has proven that its team knows how to build characters players will care about. One of the most famous villains in the history of the franchise is Albert Wesker, but he’s nowhere to be seen in Resident Evil Village, leaving some fans wondering what’s happened to the man who wears sunglasses regardless of the weather.

Longtime franchise fans likely know that Wesker was seemingly killed in Resident Evil 5. While fighting Chris and Sheva Alomar inside of an active volcano, Wesker falls into the boiling hot magma. This doesn’t immediately kill him, so Chris and Sheva shoot him with rocket launchers. The game then ends, and players are led to believe that Wesker is now dead at the bottom of the volcano.

However, there is some evidence out there that suggests Wesker might not be as dead as players previously believed. In Umbrella Corps, Capcom’s multiplayer shooter spin-off, Resident Evil players can encounter a specific conversation that points to Wesker still being alive. If a group of players defeats the entire enemy team without losing a single round, they’ll hear a conversation between a character named Abraham Jackson and a mysterious voice. That voice belongs to voice actor D.C. Douglas – the voice of Wesker.

Where Is Albert Wesker In Resident Evil Village

This might not seem like a big deal. After all, Umbrella Corps is hardly the most well-known Resident Evil title; but unlike games like Operation Raccoon City and Resident Evil: GaidenUmbrella Corps is officially recognized as canon by Capcom. That means that if Wesker is the one having the conversation with Jackson, he should be alive in the current Resident Evil timeline, as Umbrella Corps takes place after Resident Evil 6.

That being said, the revelation is tenuous at best. Capcom has made no indication that Wesker is alive in Resident Evil 7, and he obviously didn’t show up in Village, so if he’s alive, he’s doing a great job of hiding behind the scenes. Given Capcom’s apparent desire to add new characters to the canon over the course of Resident Evil 7 and Village, this makes a fair amount of sense. Characters like Leon Kennedy or Claire Redfield haven’t been seen in quite some time either, so Wesker’s absence is understandable. If Capcom decides to start bringing those fan favorites back in any upcoming Resident Evil content, Wesker is a prime candidate to make a surprising reappearance.
