Why Alexia Had A Heart to Heart With Her Former Husband’s Lover

Alexia Echevarria of The Real Housewives of Miami fame decided to connect with her deceased husband Herman Echevarria’s ex-lover. While the man remains anonymous on the reality show, his abs are featured prominently on the series, with blurred screenshots from the man’s social media.

Before The Real Housewives of Miami was initially canceled, Alexia was married to Herman Echevarria for over ten years. Alexia is now happily married to Todd Nepola, which seems to be making it easier for her to grapple with her past. Herman passed away in 2016, due to a heart attack in a Miami hotel room. Though Alexia and Herman had separated at the time of his death, they remained married. After he passed, rumors that Herman was gay began to circulate. Herman had always denied that he was gay.

There were questions that Herman’s former lover could possibly answer. Alexia shared that her father was also gay, but that he didn’t come out while he was alive. She said on the show, “back then, with the Cuban culture, it was not ok to be gay. I can’t imagine the agony that my father had to live with.” Alexia recognized that her husband and father lived double lives. She was likely attracted to Herman due to the many qualities he shared with her father. After Alexia lost both Herman and her mother, she stayed positive and was eager to know the truth. With both her father’s and Herman gone, Herman’s lover was the only person Alexia could get answers from. When it was suggested that Herman potentially died making love to a man, Alexia remarkably commented, “well, you know what, if that’s the case, that’s the way I wanna die too.” 

After obtaining Herman’s former lover’s contact information through a mutual friend, she arranged a time to meet him. However, the man never showed. He said he did not want to settle the mysteries of their shared history on camera. Preferring to remain anonymous, the man called Alexia instead, and the pair spoke for more than four hours. Alexia is accustomed to colorful exes and a movie-like plot for her life. While Alexia didn’t reveal all the details of her conversation with Marysol Patton, she said that they started the relationship a year before Herman and Alexia split up.

Alexia also shared that he purchased a home for the man, and helped to bring his parents over from Cuba. This made sense to Marysol, who saw Herman as a provider. Alexia stated that the lover said Herman respected her immensely but would never share his truth. Marysol commented, “he was never gonna tell you that because he knew you weren’t gonna put up with that.”

Alexia said she felt relieved that Herman was happy and healthy and was grateful for the opportunity to celebrate and honor Herman with the conversation. When Alexia suggested inviting the man to her next wedding, her friend Jonny shut that down. Marysol couldn’t imagine meeting her husband’s ex-lover with such composure and was pleasantly surprised by Alexia’s remarkably positive outlook. If one thing is for sure, is that Alexia is bringing closure (and the best storylines) to The Real Housewives of Miami reboot.
