November and December are two of Amazon’s biggest months, and this year they’re teaming up with Nintendo to deliver a limited number of Super Mario Bros. boxes to consumers as part of their Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary celebrations. These boxes are part of a promotional campaign and will ship instead of Amazon’s normal cardboard boxes regardless of whether or not the item inside is related to the world of video games.

Nintendo has done a lot of promotion for Super Mario Bros. 35 Anniversary already, including announcing and releasing Nintendo Switch ports of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy in the form of Super Mario 3D All-Stars. It has also developed and released Super Mario Bros. 35, a re-imagining of the original Super Mario Bros. title combined with the multiplayer aspects of games like Tetris 99. Both of these titles are only available for a limited time, much like Amazon’s new shipping boxes

According to Nintendo, the new Mario-themed Amazon boxes will be used randomly, and only a limited stock is available. Importantly, the company also states that it doesn’t matter what consumers purchase on Amazon, and that “Purchasing Nintendo products will not increase the possibility of receiving a Super Mario Bros. branded box.

How To Get A Super Mario Bros. Box From Amazon

There is no way to guarantee a Super Mario Bros. box will be used with any particular Amazon purchase, so Nintendo collectors and interested fans will just have to pick something to order from Amazon and hope for the best if they want one of their own. A Super Mario Bros. box may not be what some people expect to show up at their door when they ordered something non-gaming from Amazon, and it’s likely many will simply end up in the garbage if they’re delivered to people who don’t care about Mario at all.

Will Mario’s Amazon Box Be Worth Money

Amazon changing up their shipping boxes in order to promote a video game or a television show is nothing new (Good Omens got its own Amazon box previously) but many of Nintendo’s limited-run items do end up becoming collector’s items, so it will be interesting to see if the same thing happens here. It’s entirely possible that fans will latch on to this Super Mario Bros. shipping box and it will be listed on eBay ten years from now for some extremely high price tag, and it’s equally possible that all the boxes will end up in various landfills two months from now, after the holiday season is over. Anyone looking to grab their own Super Mario Bros. box can roll the dice by purchasing something on Amazon, but unless that’s something they were already planning on doing anyway, it’s probably not worth buying something unnecessary just to try and get a specific type of cardboard box.
