Here’s why the OWN reality series Mind Your Business With Mahisha hasn’t returned for season 2. Soon after its launch back in 2011, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) realized that reality television shows brought in a lot of viewers. Unscripted series like Welcome To Sweetie Pie’s (about soul singer turned soul food restaurateur Robbie Montgomery) or Iyanla: Fix My Life (which sees life coach Iyanla Vanzant help people overcome specific problems in their lives) proved to be among OWN’s most popular programs and ran for several seasons.

Since then OWN has debuted several more reality series with varying degrees of success including Deliver Me, which focused on three female OB-GYN doctors and ran for four seasons, and 6 Little McGees which followed a couple raising sextuplets and aired for three seasons. In 2018, Mind Your Business With Mahisha became OWN’s latest reality TV show for the whole family. The series was hosted by self-made millionaire Mahisha Dellinger who founded the natural hair care brand CURLS back in 2002 and has since become a leading voice in black female entrepreneurship.

Mind Your Business With Mahisha followed Dellinger as she provided business advice and mentorship to fellow female Black entrepreneurs. The show’s first featured eight hour-long episodes, each of which saw Dellinger share her expertise with different budding businesswomen. Dellinger’s Mind Your Business With Mahisha mentees included entrepreneurs like Footnanny pedicure product company founder Gloria Williams, pitmaster chef Shalamar Lane who runs her own BBQ restaurant and Mehgan James – the former Bad Girls Club cast member and founder of fashion label 800 West.

Despite some favorable reviews, Mind Your Business With Mahisha was never a big ratings hit for the Oprah Winfrey Network and pulled in an average of just 0.35 million viewers per episode. While OWN has yet to officially cancel the series, it also hasn’t renewed the show for a second season – and those low ratings may be the reason why. However, OWN has never officially stated why Mind Your Business With Mahisha season 2 hasn’t happened yet and there’s always a slight chance that the show could return. Mahisha Dellinger certainly seems in favor of returning for a second season, as evidenced by a July 2020 post on Instagram in which she remembered the show fondly.

Unfortunately, Mind Your Business With Mahisha season 2 doesn’t look likely at the moment as OWN is currently investing in other reality TV programming. Not only did the network recently start airing a similarly themed series called Belle Collective that follows five Mississippi businesswomen, but it also recently inked a first-look deal with reality TV producer Carlos King (who produces Belle Collective and fellow OWN reality show Love & Marriage: Huntsville) to develop new unscripted shows for OWN.
