Developed by SIE Japan Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, Knack was met with mixed reviews when it debuted in 2013. Though critics appreciated the game’s creativity and imaginative concept, its gameplay and difficulty settings created problems for some players. Nevertheless, the platforming game was successful enough to spawn a sequel. Knack II was released in 2017, which, in general, was seen as an improvement to its predecessor.

With roughly a four-year window between Knack games, players have been increasingly wondering if and when a third installment in the franchise will be released. It’s now been three years since the debut of Knack II, so it’s about time that the existence of the sequel be confirmed. But with barely any information to go on, the future of the Knack series seems bleak.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

It’s likely some players expected Sony would announce a Knack 3 alongside new information about the PlayStation 5. The release of the next-gen consoles seemed like the perfect opportunity to get fans excited for a new Knack release. Even more, it’s a relatively safe game franchise that won’t receive too much flack should a teaser trailer (or the actual game) flop, and as such, it would’ve been a smart choice to use to show off the PS5’s new graphical capabilities. But while most details about the next-gen consoles have been revealed, it remains anyone’s best guess whether Knack 3 will ever see the light of day.

Why Has Sony Not Confirmed Knack 3?

No official word has been given on Knack 3, but neither Sony nor SIE Japan Studio have confirmed or denied that the third installment is happening. So, while that leaves the possibility of the sequel up in the air, it’s not very promising. Most titles that are being released for the next-gen consoles have already been confirmed, so although it’s possible that Knack 3 will arrive much later after the new PlayStation debuts, it’s also possible any sequel has been scrapped.

Why would Sony abandon a Knack 3? Easy – it’s all about money. There’s just not enough interest in the Knack games. As was said before, Knack is a safe franchise. While there’s a strong handful of fans who love the games, there’s not as much interest in the series as there is in other franchises, like the God of War series, which recently announced a new installment for the PS5. With not as much interest in Knack comparatively to other franchises, it means the publisher and developer don’t stand as good a chance of making a high profit as they do with other games. So, it makes sense that their energy would be focused on more lucrative titles as opposed to lesser-loved ones like Knack. As it stands, it doesn’t appear that Knack 3 will see the light of day, and while it doesn’t mean the game will never come to fruition, it doesn’t seem like it’s happening anytime soon.
