With only a few weeks until the debut of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, gamers have been given their first look at one of the first boss battles to be featured in the PlayStation 5 launch title, one including the villain Rhino. Rhino’s massive size and incredible strength make him a unique boss that often requires players to think outside the box in order to defeat him. Normally, his inclusion in a video game is nothing but a positive. In this case, however, it probably would have been better if Insomniac had gone in a different direction.

There is no doubt that Rhino is one of Spider-Man’s best enemies. The giant Russian monster has been featured in a number of Spidey’s video games in the past, including the original PlayStation’s Spider-Man, the PlayStation 2’s movie tie-in game Spider-Man 2, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, among a few others.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Before Spider-Man Miles Morales, Rhino was last seen in the games 2018 predecessor, Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4. One of the reasons fans enjoyed the previous installment so much was the wide variety of enemies that were included. Rhino was a key antagonist in the game, serving as a member of Doctor Octopus’ Sinister Six. Just because he was good in that game, however, doesn’t mean it was wise to include the villain in Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Here’s why.

Spider-Man Miles Morales Rehashing Villains Is Disappointing

Spider-Man has so many villains that rehashing one from Spider-Man PS4 is very disappointing. There are plenty of other villains in the hero’s rogues gallery that the game developers at Insomniac could have chosen to include in Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Instead, they opted to use one of Peter’s most famous villains in a story that is supposed to be all about Miles Morales becoming his own hero.

This points to a concern that many players have with Spider-Man: Miles Morales: is Insomniac giving this game the love and attention that it deserves? Due to multiple reports, fans of the franchise are already aware that Miles’ game will be shorter than the traditional video game; that’s why it is being sold at a reduced price. The length of the game makes it more akin to something like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy than any normal, full-length gaming experience. That means there will likely be less bosses to fight in the game than there were in the original, and now it is known that one of those few bosses will be a rehash from Peter Parker’s 2018 adventure.

When the full game comes out, it very well could become the case that Rhino was the perfect villain to introduce in Miles’ solo outing. While that may come to pass, as things stand right now, it seems that the villain’s inclusion was a bit of a mistake. Either way, overall the gameplay that has been shown so far is quite impressive, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales will probably be a massive success. All that being said, it would have been nice if the game had a little bit more originality.
