The season 2 finale of Why Women Kill finally brought the Fillcots’ murdering spree to a close and tied up some loose ends along the way. Although it was considerably less dramatic than the ending of the first season, which brought three parallel storylines together and ended them simultaneously, this ending had some memorable moments as well.

With Bertram (Nick Frost) dead and Alma (Allison Tolman) tried for her crimes, most of the major plots in the season were resolved. However, a few questions remained unanswered, mostly about the secondary characters and their future, as well as that of the show. From questions over the logic of Rita’s (Lana Parrilla) death to storylines that were dropped along the way, fans were left speculating about a number of things related to the show.

10 How Did Alma Afford The Expensive Outfits?

When the season began, Alma’s fashion sense was described as frumpy and dull by the characters she envied and looked up to. In the episode, “Secret Beyond the Door,” she went to buy a new dress to wear to a Garden Club party but it was expensive so she bought some fabric, copied the design, and made her own dress. It didn’t turn out great and resulted in Rita mocking her at the party.

As the body count climbed higher, so did Alma’s rank in the garden club. Even her dressing improved and she became one of the most stylish characters. But as far as her financial situation was concerned, nothing had changed, so how was she suddenly able to afford fancy clothes? She might have stolen more of Mrs. Yost’s (Rondi Reed) clothes, but outfits like her inauguration dress were definitely new. Another possibility is that she used the money they’d meant to pay Isabel, but that wasn’t clarified on the show.

9 What Was The Point Of Alma’s Ex?

After inadvertently causing Mrs. Yost’s death, Alma and Bertram buried her in their yard and drove her car to another town to dump it in a lake. While on their trip, they bumped into Alma’s high school boyfriend who seemed like a big dealbut he was never mentioned or seen again beyond that episode.

The ex seems like a wasted opportunity after introducing him with such intrigue as his appearance increased the tension between Alma and Bertram at the time. Since he met the couple while they were staging Mrs. Yost’s disappearance, it would have been interesting to see him show up again providing the authorities with information of the Fillcots’ whereabouts and casting more suspicion on them.

8 Was Harry Looking For Rita?

In the episode, “The Unguarded Moment,” Catherine (Veronica Falcón) told Isabel (Eileen Galindo) that she had tracked down Harry, Rita’s ex-husband whom Isabel believed she’d shot dead. He had survived the shooting, so legally, Rita was still his wife.

Catherine used that to get rid of Rita, but was Harry already looking for her anyway? Given his abusive and controlling nature shown in the flashback, it’s hard to imagine he simply let the shooting incident go. Luckily, Catherine and Isabel changed their identities so any attempt by Harry to find them likely didn’t lead anywhere.

7 What Happened To Catherine?

The last time viewers saw Catherine was during the dramatic penultimate episode, “The Unguarded Moment.” Her butler intervened when she was aiming a gun at Rita and she accidentally shot Scooter (Matthew Daddario) and Bertram. The finale only mentioned that Catherine had run away and left her father’s mansion locked.

Since both victims of her gunshots lived to tell the tale, it’s surprising there was no mention of police investigating or searching for her. While neither Scooter nor Bertram died, she still shot them and that’s certainly a punishable offense. It also would have been satisfying to see her reaction to Rita’s death in the finale as the two were rivals.

6 What Happened To Carlo’s Estate?

Even though he wasn’t one of the best dads on TV, Carlo’s (Daniel Zacapa) death was unfair; planned by Alma to frame Rita. Catherine was also determined to prove that Rita was having an affair and shouldn’t inherit anything from her father’s estate.

Rita, on the other hand, had executed an elaborate scheme to make sure Catherine didn’t get her inheritance either. When Catherine shot Scooter and Bertram and ran away after, she abandoned the mansion. Nothing else was said about it, leaving viewers wondering if its final fate was to remain locked and desolate.

5 Why Did Scooter Survive The Shooting?

When Scooter and Bertram were shot in the penultimate episode, it seemed like that was the end for the two men, but the finale revealed that both of them were fine. The outcome of such a tension-filled, dramatic scene was disappointing, especially in comparison with Why Women Kill‘s season 1 finale. The finale made up for that in a way with Bertram’s death and a brilliant closing scene.

However, Scooter’s ending felt a little lacking and made his survival rather pointless. After a heartfelt conversation with Dee about their unborn child that showed incredible growth on his part, he ended up right back where he’d started at the beginning of the season. Some fans on Reddit felt that storywise, it would have been better if he’d died.

4 Will Scooter Be Part Of The Baby’s Life?

Before Rita’s death, Scooter planned to go with her to New York so they could start fresh together. That plan fell apart once Alma stabbed Rita to death. As the finale showed, the incident helped Scooter gain attention from rich women so he was living pretty once again.

Now that he didn’t need to leave town, was he going to be part of Dee’s baby’s life? He had expressed interest in having the baby know about him, however, since he reverted to his old ways, it doesn’t seem like spending time with a child would be a priority.

3 Did Grace Suspect Alma Killed Carlo?

During a conversation with Rita, Grace (Virginia Williams) commented on how Alma had changed and pointed out that Rita had gotten in her way and ended up in jail and out of the garden club. The two ladies talked more about it in an off-screen conversation, after which Rita approached Alma and accused her of killing Carlo and framing her for it.

Was it possible Grace had connected the dots and figured out Alma had something to do with Carlo’s death? Grace was the only club member who’d liked and supported Alma from the start, even while Rita mocked her. Their friendship fell apart once Alma found out that Grace was having an affair with another member and blackmailed them so she could become president. That had shown her just how vicious Alma could be and may have opened her eyes to the truth that Rita had been blind to.

2 Did The Garden Club Continue?

After Alma’s secrets came to light, she was referred to as the “garden club killer” on account of her association with the garden club that had started her murderous spree. Before that, Rita had been arrested for Carlo’s murder while she was the president.

With so much scandal surrounding it, it’s hard to imagine the club continued to exist after two of its members were involved in murder investigations. Grace had already dropped out when Alma blackmailed her partner, so it’s possible other members followed suit once she was arrested and tried.

1 Will There Be A Third Season?

The first season of Why Women Kill told the story of three women from different timelines in the same house. The second focused on one timeline with an entirely different cast, except for Bertram’s nurse (Lindsey Kraft) from the finale who was Rob’s assistant in season 1.

Thanks to this format, viewers aren’t left hanging at the end of the season, waiting for answers. Fans are hoping for a third season and are curious what it will bring, especially with regards to the unofficial tradition established of having Once Upon A Time alumni and a Daddario sibling in each season.
