One of the greatest comedic actors of the current generation, Will Arnett has had a much longer career than you may be aware of. He was originally known as George Oscar Bluth II in Arrested Development, but you probably now know him as BoJack Horseman himself. In perhaps the role he is most well-known for, Bojack allows him to merge some incredibly impressive comedic moments with genuinely dark and depressing content.

He has also had an impressive film career, landing some incredibly funny voiceover roles, at the same time appearing in live-action work. We’ve ranked the five best and five worst films and TV shows that Will Arnett has had a major part in.

10 BEST: Despicable Me (7.6)

Out of nowhere, Despicable Me turned into a cultural beacon. It skipped straight to the top of the pile of ‘things kids love’, with Minions making up about 99 percent of all fancy dress costumes for about a year. Sequels have been released consistently ever since the 2010 original.

Will Arnett plays the President of the Bank Of Evil, who also happens to be the father of the film’s primary antagonist, Vector.

9 WORST: The Waiting Game (5.3)

One of his earliest films, The Waiting Game, was put together on an incredibly small budget and didn’t receive a whole lot more at the box office.

The film was written, produced and directed by Ken Liotti and starred Arnett as one of the aspiring actors waiting tables in a restaurant, but failed to make any impact.

8 BEST: The Lego Movie (7.7)

Arnett landed such a major role in the strangely incredible two-hour advertisement that is The Lego Movie that he ended up starring in his own spin-off. He plays Lego Batman — parodically obsessed with making everything as overly masculine as possible.

Whether or not he can now technically put himself in the same category as Adam West and Christian Bale is an interesting question, but it cannot be denied that this is the funniest Batman has ever been.

7 WORST: The Brothers Solomon (5.3)

One of the few directing ventures from Bob Odenkirk (better known as Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul) The Brothers Solomon was a massive failure in pretty much every way possible.

Despite having a cast full of great comedic names, its humor was almost completely lost, leading to negative reviews and a huge box office bomb.

6 BEST: Ratatouille (8.0)

For a film about a rat who happens to be a really good chef, Ratatouille ended up gaining some seriously impressive responses. An 8.0 average is quite amazing for an animated film. In it, Will Arnett plays Skinner’s sous chef, Horst.

This could have also been where Arnett and Patton Oswalt (who voices multiple characters in BoJack Horseman) first met.

5 WORST: G-Force (5.1)

Probably in an attempt to capitalize on the success of Alvin And The Chipmunks, Disney attempted to make a film that starred anthropomorphic guinea pigs. It did not work.

Somehow, it managed to attract the likes of Arnett, Bill Nighy and Zach Galifianakis, but it failed to make much of an impact on critics.

4 BEST: Arrested Development (8.7)

Arguably, the role Arnett was most well-known for before BoJack Horseman was George Oscar Bluth II in Arrested Development. He appeared in an impressive 82 episodes between 2003 and 2019, only missing out on two in the show’s entire run.

His character, known as G.O.B, is a failed magician who is constantly thinking up new schemes, bullying his brother Buster and trying to steal women from his other brother, Michael (Jason Bateman).

3 WORST: Jonah Hex (4.7)

With a relatively sizable budget that allowed director Jimmy Hayward to attract the likes of John Malkovich, Megan Fox and Will Arnett in his attempt at a superhero film, you might expect a certain level of quality.

You’d be wrong though because this film failed to make an impact and was panned universally by critics.

2 BEST: BoJack Horseman (8.7)

Possibly the best and most impactful animated show since The Simpsons premiered all the way back in 1989, BoJack Horseman is a powerful demonstration of how touching, emotional and meaningful animation can be. Even if the main character is a horse.

Arnett plays the titular character in a way that makes us both hate him and everything he does while also empathizing with him. On top of all that, almost every word that comes out of his mouth has the ability to make us laugh.

1 WORST: Show Dogs (3.7)

This film came in the middle of the success of the often very serious, very well-respected BoJack Horseman. Arnett was rather well-known for giving life to anthropomorphic animals by this point, but his role here was very much human.

He was, in a weirdly similar way to his role in G-Force, an FBI agent. A terrible script, a ridiculous story and the general failure to make anything interesting happen on-screen led to a terrible critic response to this film.
