Will Genshin Impact Support Cross-Saves On Switch

Since its release a little over a month ago, Genshin Impact has become incredibly popular. Currently, the open world RPG is only available on mobile, PC, and PlayStation 4 – but a Nintendo Switch version is on its way. The biggest question on a lot of fans’ minds is whether or not the game will support cross-saving once it arrives on Switch, as some players have already made substantial progress in Genshin Impact’s story.

While Genshin Impact supports cross-play between all versions of the game, cross-saves only work between mobile and PC. This means players can save their game on mobile and then boot the game up on PC to continue playing without any issues – and vice versa. However, this isn’t available on PS4, which is why cross-saving is such a major mystery involving the Nintendo Switch version of the game.

Cross-saves with the PlayStation 4 don’t work due to the way PSN accounts lock into a player’s Genshin Impact account. Those familiar with playing other online RPGs like Final Fantasy XIV on PS4 will already be familiar with this issue. For some users, the lack of cross-save support is a bit of a deal-breaker. So, when Genshin Impact arrives on Switch, will it support cross-saves or not? That answer is unclear right now, but here’s why cross-saving may be supported on the Switch.

Why Genshin Impact Cross-Save Support May Come To Switch

One factor to consider is that Nintendo doesn’t lock user accounts in-game like PSN does. While Nintendo is notoriously iffy about online multiplayer and cross-play, there’s still no reason to assume cross-saves won’t be supported in Genshin Impact. And based on the popularity of the Switch, developer miHoYo will most likely want to make the Nintendo Switch version of Genshin Impact as accessible as possible.

There are plenty of Nintendo Switch games that already have cross-save support with PC. Popular titles like Fortnite, Divinity: Original Sin 2, and Minecraft are just a few games that allow players to cross-save between PC and Nintendo Switch. The Witcher 3 is one of the most recent titles to get Switch cross-save support, and the list continues to grow. Because of this, it’s certainly probable that Genshin Impact will have cross-save support as well.

Until the game releases on Switch, cross-save support for Genshin Impact is still up in the air. However, based on Nintendo’s history with other popular cross-platform titles, it seems likely the open-world RPG will support cross-saves on Switch, too, which is good news for players who want to pick right up where they left on on Nintendo’s console.
