It’s strange that many children’s movies inspire dozens of dark conspiracy theories, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is no different. Whether it’s the deathly allure of the chocolate factory, Willy Wonka’s scientific advancements, or the hidden intentions of the chocolatier, there’s a lot for a conspiracy theorist to dissect.

The king of all conspiracies, the Oompa Loompas. All audiences know about the Oompa Loompas is that they are from the mysterious town of Loompaland, which itself is subject to several conspiracies too. Between the Loompas’ strange identical looks, their incredible quotes, and their questionable actions, it has led to some of the most mind-blowing theories.

10 They Were Involved In Murder

Being one of the least likable characters of the movie, Violet turned into a giant blueberry and was rolled out of the factory by the Oompa Loompas in the original movie, but what if that isn’t what happened at all? One fan theory suggests that Willy Wonka is actually a serial killer who preys on little children, and the little singing guys are the mad man’s accomplices in the whole plot.

9 They Are Aliens

Hailing from Loompaland is one of the facts you didn’t know about them, but there are a lot of signs that point to the fact that Loompaland may actually be on a different planet.

This theory explains that the chocolatier used Wonkavision to travel to different planets. On top of that, in Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wonka tells the guests that the Loompas hid in treehouses to avoid Snozzwangers and Whangdoodles, which could very well be extraterrestrial life forms.

8 They are normal-sized people that Willy Wonka Shrunk

Being one of the more abstract theories on the Loompas, one Redditor suggests that Loompaland never actually existed and they were spies who originally worked in the factory that Wonka shrunk. We all know he already has the technology to shrink people and that he closed the factory down after finding spies, so everything actually checks out, though it doesn’t explain exactly why they all look the same.

7 They Are Actually Giants

This theory takes the idea of Willy Wonka shrinking the Oompa Loompas one step further, as this theorist believes the Loompas were once giants. Again using Wonkavision to tie the theory together, the theory goes deeper into the mathematics of it all. As he uses the ratio of four and a half feet to six inches, which is what Michael Teavee shrunk down to, the theorist estimates that the Oompa Loompas would have originally been 48 feet tall.

6 They Are A Metaphor For Slaves Working In Plantations

They might be responsible for one of the catchiest movie villain songs, but they may very well have been singing against their will. This theory claims that Willy Wonka is actually a racist and a slave owner, as he took them from where they lived and put them straight to work in a factory with an extremely dangerous work environment. Not only that, but they are paid in cocoa beans too.

5 They Introduced Willy Wonka To Cannibalism

There was a lot of scrumdiddlyumptious candy throughout both movies that had audiences drooling, but it has been suggested that it’s not only chocolate and candy that Wonka was eating. Another Redditor has speculated that Wonka is really a cannibal and was eating the children the whole time and that it was actually the Loompas who introduced him to cannibalism, as it could have been a tradition in Loompaland, wherever it is.

4 They Are From A Different Universe

The origins of the Oompa Loompas have always come in to question, as Loompaland has never been a satisfying explanation. One Redditor posits that knowing that Wonka is able to make these grand machines that can transmit pieces of chocolate from TV sets into people’s homes, it is very possible that Willy Wonka could come up with some sort of machine that could travel to different universes.

Well, the great glass elevator could be that very machine, as when explaining which ways the elevator can travel, Wonka says it goes square-ways, meaning that the Loompas could be from an alternate universe.

3 They Are The Kapo’s To Willy Wonka’s Nazi

With Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka being blue-eyed with blonde hair, he has been compared to a Nazi. The theory actually holds some ground, as Willy Wonka is known to have random outbursts in German. Not only that, but the chocolatier is clearly an advocate for slave labor too, not to mention that the candy could very easily be weaponized. But the theory suggests that the Loompas are Kapos, as they aren’t allowed to leave but they certainly get preferential treatment.

2 Wonka Made The Factory So Crazy To Accommodate Them

If Willy Wonka is anything it is extravagant, as his wild inventions and outlandish interior designs prove that he is either totally crazy or ingenious. But this theory explains that his factory designs aren’t a product of his imagination, but were built to accommodate the Oompa Loompas. As they are such hard workers, Wonka didn’t want them to ever have a reason to leave, which is why they have other jobs in Tim Burton’s movie, such as gardeners, scientists, and even therapists.

1 The Bad Kids Turn In To Oompa Loompas

Being one of the unlikeliest of all the conspiracy theories but just as interesting and highly imaginative, one Redditor claims that the children who misbehave in the factory (i.e. every single one of them,) are turned into Oompa Loompas. The one bit of proof to clutch on to that shows this is possible is in the song that the Loompas sing, with the lyrics being, “You can live in happiness too. Like the Oompa Loompa doopidy do,” which could very well be the Loompas trying to forewarn the children.
