Bags are an incredibly important tool in Windbound, as a large portion of the game consists of managing the player’s limited inventory. Some of the items can even expire as time passes. If players craft a better bag, they will be able to carry more objects. Some bags also give Kara abilities and bonuses that will help them evade predators, carry more food, and resist attacks. Bags are one of the first things that a new player should make to store the plentiful resources they find, and then upgrade to more durable and spacious bags as they have more access to new materials. Kara will start with seven inventory, and when combined with a bag, this can increase to 14-25 slots. Players can also supplement this with baskets and chests, but they are nowhere near as portable as a bag.

How to craft bags in Windbound

Palm Bag

The first bag that a player will be able to make is a palm bag. Players will be able to make it with five palm fronds and two grass ropes. Palm fronds will be fairly easy to come across, while grass ropes will take a little more crafting before making the finished product. Grass ropes can be made by combining two units of thick grass together. This bag can be made in the crafting menu. Kara can only carry one bag at once. This bag will add seven slots to her inventory. It won’t be able to carry much, but it will make a big difference in increasing what Kara can carry. To unlock the recipe for this bag, players will need to harvest a palm frond.

Armored Bag

An armored bag can be made to increase inventory slots and reduce damage taken. It does, however, cost more energy for Kara to sprint. To make this bag, players will need one leather, two crude metal, and two grass rope. To make leather, players will need to collect skins from wild animals, like Plainstalkers. Then, they can cook the skins over a fire. To get crude metal, players will need to travel to swampy areas and collect gray rocks with cracks in them. The armored bags will increase Kara’s inventory by 12 slots and protect her from the dangerous wildlife. To unlock the recipe for the armored bag, players will need to harvest crude metal.

Heavy Duty Bag

The heavy-duty bag can add 18 slots to Kara’s inventory. While it can carry many more items, it will slow the player down tremendously and take more stamina to carry. Players can craft this bag with two leather and two silk threads. The silk thread can be looted from the bodies of Silk Maws, which can be found in the cocoons hanging from trees. Combining this bag with strong armor may be a player’s best bet to make sure that the bag doesn’t weigh them down too much. To unlock the recipe for the heavy-duty bag, players will need to find silk thread.

Stealth Bags

Stealth bags add 12 slots to Kara’s inventory. This bag will come in handy when evading predators. It makes the player much harder to see and hear. To make it, players will need to gather one Gloomharrow skin, two silk threads, and two Bleenk fronds. To find a gloomharrow, players should try to explore as many islands as possible. Players will need to find Bleenks to get the Bleenk fronds. They are small, bunny-like creatures that will hide in burrows when they’re approached. If players dig them up with a shovel, players will be able to collect the Bleenk fronds. The recipe for a stealth bag is unlocked when a player gathers a Gloomharrow skin and silk thread.

Food Bags

Food Bags are a great solution to prevent food from spoiling. This bag adds 12 slots to Kara’s inventory. It also takes longer for food to spoil when it’s placed in this bag. To craft it, players will need two palm fronds, two sealillies, one silk thread, and to bloodbristle. Sealilies can be found sporadically around the islands, same as bloodbristles. This is a powerful upgrade, as it doesn’t slow the player down and increases their inventory. The recipe should unlock once players have gathered sealilies and bloodbristles.

Now, players can make many types of bags that may help them throughout their journey in investigating the islands. If players are handy enough to make a bag rack, they can keep a bag on their ship as well, giving Kara the option to switch between two bags. Players can also store different chests on the boats as well. With a handy solution to their storage problems, players can now carry all of the tools, crafting materials, food, weapons, and armor they need to fend for themselves on the islands, and to solve the mystery of the Forbidden Islands.

Windbound is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows.
