He’s arguably the most famous bear in the world, a tubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff. He’s Winnie the Pooh! Author A. A. Milne first made this bear known to the world in the early twentieth century when he published the stories he used to tell his young son Christopher Robin about the stuffed toys in his nursery. Walt Disney gave Pooh his big screen debut in the 1960s with three short featurettes that later were brought together in the movie The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

Pooh has often been called a bear of very little brain, and we love this about him. In his first film, there were many moments when he and his stuffed buddies were not always aware of their surroundings, and their obliviousness provided us with many laughs and heartwarming moments. Here are ten times that Pooh and his pals may have had their heads in the clouds.

10 When Pooh is a Little Black Rain Cloud

Poor Pooh becomes hungry one day and discovers that he is out of honey. He decides to go right to the source of the sweetness, but he must first disguise himself.

After rolling in a puddle of mud, Christopher Robin asks, “What are you supposed to be?” Pooh states, “I’m a little black rain cloud, of course.” He floats to the tree top with a bright blue balloon, convinced that the bees will not know that he is actually a bear after their honey. The bees, however, S-U-S-P-E-C-T something. You never can tell with bees.

9 When Gopher Examines “The Project”

Pooh has eaten too much honey while at Rabbit’s house, and the little cub has gotten himself stuck in his bunny buddy’s front door. Thankfully, a small construction worker called Gopher shows up, saying that he can dig out the situation when Owl tells him that the entrance to Rabbit’s house is plugged.

Gopher, however, seems to be unaware of the details of the situation. “First thing to be done is get rid of that bear. He’s scumming up the whole project.” Owl sets him straight: “He is the project.”

8 When Piglet Explains His Sign

Young Piglet lives in a tree that has been in his family for a long time, and he explains that the sign has his grandfather’s name on it. We can see that part of the sign has been broken off, and all that remains are the words, “Trespassers Will.”

One can assume that the sign once read something similar to, “Trespassers will be prosecuted,” as this is a common sign put up to keep people off of someone’s property. Piglet, however, says that in this case, it is actually short for Trespassers William, his grandfather’s name. What an unusual name.

7 When Pooh and Piglet are Sliding Around Owl’s House

It’s a blustery day in the Hundred Acre Wood, and Piglet and Pooh are off to visit their good friend Owl. The tree that his house is perched in is swaying back and forth, causing Pooh and Piglet to slide in their chairs across the room.

Piglet even accidentally gets blown outside when the door swings wide open! Owl, being quite the story teller, is too busy reciting one of his tales to even notice that his guests are moving about. Maybe if he stopped talking and opened his eyes, he would have known to evacuate before his tree fell down!

6 When Tigger Tries Honey

Tigger bounces into Pooh’s house one evening and declares that he is hungry. Pooh just so happens to have a pot of honey, which Tigger digs into with delight. He soon discovers that Tiggers don’t like honey, and announces, “that icky sticky stuff is only fit for heffalumps and woozles.”

Pooh pauses and then corrects his new friend: “You mean elephants and weasels.” “That’s what I said,” Tigger exclaims. “Heffalumps and woozles.” Poor Tigger may not be hearing or saying the words correctly, but Pooh gets warned that the two creatures steal honey. Thanks for the info, Tigger.

5 When Pooh Talks to His Reflection

Several times throughout the film, Pooh speaks to his reflection in the mirror as if it’s another bear in the room with him. “It’s more friendly with two.” His doppelganger “helps” him patrol for heffalumps and woozles, and the two of them think together after Pooh’s Pooh-coo clock goes off, trying to remember what it’s time to do.

Later, when his house gets flooded, Pooh asks, “Is it raining in there?” To be fair, Tigger doesn’t quite understand mirrors either, thinking that he sees another Tigger when he comes to Pooh’s house.

4 When Piglet Bails Water

It has rained all night, and now it is flooding in many parts of the Hundred Acre Wood, including in Piglet’s house. Little Piglet is scared and trying to quickly figure out what to do as the water creeps higher and higher.

While floating on a chair, he finds a spoon, and he begins scooping water from his bedroom and dumping it out the window. When that doesn’t work, he decides to switch to spooning water into a small frying pan, but that causes it to eventually sink. Piglet might need a lesson or two in geometry to learn that the water from his bedroom could not possibly all fit in the tiny pan.

3 When Owl Gives Piglet a Speech on Bravery

During the flood, Piglet and Pooh end up floating down a stream of water, with Piglet spinning on his chair in a whirlpool and Pooh bottoms up as he tries to get the last bit of honey from his pot. Owl comes to alert Piglet that a rescue is being planned.

Owl being owl decides that he is going to tell Piglet a story to distract his little pink friend from being scared. Due to his tale telling, he fails to realize that he is sitting on Pooh bear, and because he insists on there being no interruptions, he also is unaware that they are approaching a very big waterfall. Owl should pay more attention!

2 When Eeyore Finds a House for Owl

After Owl’s house gets ruined during the blustery day, Eeyore declares that he will find a replacement. Once the rain settles, he announces that he has found one. It turns out that this house is already taken, as it belongs to their pal Piglet, who describes it as the best house in the whole world.

Everyone seems to know that the dwelling is spoken for except Eeyore, but we can’t blame him too much for not knowing. Piglet insists that the others not tell Eeyore the truth about the house so that Owl can live there. Don’t worry though; Pooh decides that Piglet can move in with the cub, so Piglet does not become homeless.

1 When Pooh and Piglet are Tracking

A snow has fallen on The Hundred Acre Wood, creating a blanket of white that’s perfect for squishing footprints into. Pooh notices a set of these prints and decides that he is going to track whatever it is that’s making them. Piglet soon joins him, and mysteriously, another set of tracks appears alongside the first!

The two friends become slightly anxious, worrying that the creatures that made the footprints are not friendly. What they don’t know is that the sets of tracks were made by their very own bear and piggy feet, as they were walking in circles.
