Winter House: 8 Things Fans Didn’t Know About The Making Of The Show

Fans weren’t sure what to expect when Bravo announced WinterHouse, a spinoff between Summer House and Southern Charm. The reality show had faces from both series, but this time they were in neutral territory. Instead of being in Charleston or Montauk, the show was filmed in Stowe, Vermont.

Being cozied up in a winter house, the cast had themed parties, hit the slopes, and multiple hookups and relationships occurred. Now that the show is over, fans have flocked to Instagram to see what the cast is up to and are demanding a second season. However, before any of that happens, there’s still plenty of behind-the-scenes action fans don’t know about.

Austen & Craig Weren’t Used To Surveillance

In other Bravo shows like The Real Housewives, breaking the fourth wall rarely happens because that would take away from the point of the show. In Winter House, there were producers with cameras, but there were also surveillance cameras hidden throughout the house to catch things that the producers couldn’t.

Summer House stars were used to surveillance cameras, but Southern Charm members Austen and Craig weren’t familiar with them. “We’re so used to cameras going down,” Austen said on his and Craig’s podcast, Pillows and Beer. ” Craig pitched in, “We’ve never been on surveillance before on Southern Charm. That fun part definitely has cons for us because it’s raw. And so you get to see our ‘not so great’ moments.”

Craig Fell Down The Stairs

Craig is one of the best Bravolebrities for his time on Southern Charm, and now Winter House. He’s matter-of-fact and speaks his mind despite choosing sides that are sometimes unpopular. Craig can also be unintentionally hilarious when he makes mistakes.

An example of this was in a behind-the-scenes moment that didn’t make it to the screen. According to Cheat Sheet, Craig took a tumble down the Winter House stairs. “I have to go back upstairs like three times. I’m in my snowboard socks and I think I fall down the stairs. And you just hear me go, ‘ow,’” he said.

Stay At The House

With 12 stars, a team of producers, and all of their equipment, Bravo had to find a massive home that could house everybody for two weeks. And according to Burlington Free Press, that home was on Nine Hearths Drive.

The winter house is 6,600-square-feet, is on 7.7 acres of property, has six bedrooms and five and a half baths. It was a magical winter oasis for the Bravolebrities, and far different from what the beloved Summer House castmates were used to compared to their summer home in New York.

An Accident Was Reported On The Property

There were a few minor incidents that fans saw on Winter House. There were tumbles on the ski hill, the cast slid on ice on the house’s property, and a few tears were shed over romances gone wrong. But there was another accident that wasn’t shown on the show that was reported by the Burlington Free Press.

“Stowe police responded to a minor vehicle accident on the property’s private driveway on March 13 during filming,” the site reported. The driver in question turned out to be a Bravo producer and was reportedly uninjured.

The Cast Quarantined For Two Weeks & Then Filmed For Two Weeks

Winter House was shot in February 2021. Due to COVID-19, this made filming tricky because Bravo needed to make the home a safe atmosphere for the cast and crew. Making sure everyone was COVID-free was also important considering how many couples began in Winter House.

According to Reality Titbit, the cast had to quarantine nearby for two weeks before entering the winter lodge in Stowe. It was reported that the cast and crew went through “multiple rounds of COVID-19 testing due to the pandemic.“

No Cleaning Crews Were Allowed

In a YouTube live video exchange between Austen and Craig, the duo watched an episode of Winter House and shared their thoughts on what was happening on-screen, along with behind-the-scenes tidbits.

While fans were hoping to hear more about Craig and Paige’s sudden relationship, Craig offered some helpful insight into what was actually happening in the scene. Around 21 minutes into the video, Austen and Craig talked about one of the house’s themed parties and how messy the house got. “So, we weren’t allowed to have maids or a cleaning crew because of COVID,” Craig said. “So the house was a challenge.“

Craig & Jules Created A Great Friendship That Wasn’t Shown

Before getting to the house, there were a few housemates who weren’t familiar with each other. Paige’s friends Jason, Gabby, and Jules were new to the group and had to get used to new faces. In the YouTube live discussion, Craig noted that he and Jules became really close during Winter House, but that wasn’t shown on screen.

Jules was mainly involved in the drama between Gabby and Luke and wasn’t seen much with Craig. Around 37 minutes into the video, Craig admitted, “Jules and I built a pretty awesome friendship in the house. I love Jules a lot.” Austen agreed and said, “You guys definitely bonded over the fact that you had relationships.”

There’s A Reason Why Some Cast Members Had So Many Boxes

When the Bravo cameras showed everyone arriving at the house, Craig and Austen were two of the first ones there. On the house’s porch were boxes and boxes of items for Paige. The women all admitted to overpacking and mailing items to the winter lodge so they didn’t need to fly with them. Considering they were in the house for two weeks, fans questioned why they had so many boxes.

On Reddit, fans agreed that some of the boxes had to have been filled with decor for their themed parties. As an influencer, Paige continued filming videos for Amazon Live while at the house. Many of those boxes could have been items from sponsors or filming equipment. A spinoff of Paige’s day-to-day as an influencer could be Bravo’s next hit reality show.
