A new Wizard of Oz deepfake video features Tom Holland as Dorothy and Robert Downey Jr. as Scarecrow. The original Wizard of Oz starring Judy Garland came out in 1939. The now-iconic film has been parodied in several movies and TV shows over the years but the original cast included Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, and Jack Haley as the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion, and the Tin Man, respectively.

While the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion, and the Tin Man have gone down as one of cinema’s most iconic trios, Spider-Man and Iron Man also became a dynamic duo of the MCU. Tony Stark quickly turned into a mentor for Peter Parker after Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was introduced in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. Their father-son-like relationship became a heartwarming element in the MCU, making Spider-Man’s “death” in Avengers: Infinity War even more heartbreaking. Even after Tony sacrificed himself in Avengers: Endgame, their close bond took a toll on Peter, as seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Now, Downey Jr. and Holland are back together for a deepfake video from NextFace. The video is designed as a mashup trailer for The Avengers and The Wizard of Oz, appropriately titled, The Avengers of Oz. Apart from Holland and Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth appears as the Cowardly Lion, and Chris Pratt stars as the Tin Man. Stan Lee even makes an appearance as the Wizard of Oz. The trailer, as well as the scene where Dorothy meets Scarecrow can be seen below:

With as famous as The Wizard of Oz has become, it’s no surprise that there are plans on remaking the classic film. Just last month it was announced that the Watchmen TV show director had been hired to direct a Wizard of Oz remake. Universal is also adapting Wicked into a movie, which will be directed by In the Heights director Jon M. Chu. With the MCU producing some of the most popular and lucrative films in the last decade, it’s completely possible that either of these projects could hire someone who has starred in a Marvel movie.

Based on this video, it’s clear that people love seeing Holland and Downey Jr. together. Their interviews when promoting Avengers: Endgame would always circle the internet due to their hilarious off-screen dynamic, and fans have even made a Back to the Future deepfake starring Holland as Marty McFly and Downey Jr. as Dr. Emmett Brown. The Wizard of Oz remake or Wicked could benefit from the star power Holland and Downey Jr. bring to movies, so there’s no reason why the actors couldn’t appear in one of the films. Even if Holland and Downey Jr. don’t appear in The Wizard of Oz or Wicked, it would be great to see them star in another movie together at some point.
