Wonder Woman has just beaten DC’s version of Thor with his own hammer. After being trapped in the endless battles of Valhalla, Diana Prince searched for answers from the Valkyries, who stopped returning the lost souls to Valhalla. After confronting the Valkyries, Wonder Woman is confronted by Thor, who tries to use his version of Mjolnir to find answers. However, the God of Thunder quickly finds out he’s no match for Wonder Woman.

Diana recently ended up in Asgard without her memories following the events of DC’s Dark Knights: Death Metal. Upon awakening in the realm, she discovered the looming threat of Ragnarok, as Yggdrasil, the world tree was dying. As that happened, the Valkyries also stopped bringing the lost souls of warriors to Valhalla. In an effort to prevent the destruction of Asgard and everybody in the reality, Wonder Woman quested to the Valkyrie’s base. With the help of Odin, she managed to get to the guarded fortress to uncover what happened to the missing Valkyries.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In Wonder Woman #773 by Michael. W Conrad, Becky Cloonan, Travis Moore, Tamra Bonvillain, and Pat Brosseau, Diana arrives at the Valkyrie’s fortress. After talking with the Valkyries, she learns they’ve grown sick and tired of war and being bound by man to their duties. They reveal the missing souls are not lost, but they’re in the void. The Valkyries tell Diana they aren’t disappearing, but are quitting – even if that means Asgard burns. However, Thor, who broke into the fortress with other warriors, overhears the conversation and attacks after believing the Valkyries are neglecting their duties. While a fight breaks out, Diana remembers who she is and her true strength and takes Thor’s hammer as he’s about to hit a Valkyrie and knocks him to the ground.

Wonder Woman not only beats Thor with his hammer, but she breaks it in between her hands. As Thor is devastated by his loss, Diana explains that Dr. Psycho, who made the Asgardians their new weapons, was using magic to manipulate him. The magic brought out Thor’s worst traits. The comic ends with Psycho’s defeat and an agreement between Thor and the Valkyries to continue on, but with a much-needed day off each week. The Valkyrie’s return also means Yggdrasil can continue to live.

DC’s Thor was a deeply egotistical misogynist, and while that’s still true to some extent, Physco’s magic influenced the worst parts of his personality to turn him into the worst version of himself. Thankfully, Wonder Woman solved the crisis with the Valkyries and crushed Thor’s magical hammer before it was too late. Wonder Woman #773 is in stores now.
