Minor spoilers ahead for Wonder Woman 1984.

Etta Candy actress Lucy Davis reveals where fans can find her Wonder Woman 1984 cameo now that the movie has been released. Hot off the heels of Wonder Woman‘s massive success in 2017, fans were eager to see what would come next in the sequel. However, Wonder Woman 1984 took some time to actually debut, as it was delayed numerous times because of the coronavirus pandemic. After much waiting, fans can finally see the Patty Jenkins-directed sequel, which premiered in theaters and on HBO Max this past weekend. Wonder Woman 1984 scored a pandemic-best opening weekend and amassed a sizable audience on streaming.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Though Wonder Woman 1984 is set decades after the first movie, there are plenty of connections to the earlier installment. The largest one, of course, is Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor, miraculously returned from the dead. However, there’s another quick character cameo fans might have missed. One of the bright spots of Wonder Woman is Davis’ Etta Candy, Steve’s bubbly and witty secretary. Fans weren’t expecting Etta to appear in Wonder Woman 1984 and in a way, she didn’t. That doesn’t mean she wasn’t there at all.

Davis hopped on social media to reveal just where fans can spot Etta in Wonder Woman 1984. Early on in the film, Diana (Gal Gadot) returns to her Washington D.C. apartment, and viewers get a look at various pictures of her from over the years. One such picture shows her and an elderly woman posing against a city backdrop. Wonder Woman 1984 offers no explanation as to who the woman is, but Davis has confirmed it: It’s Etta, who “remained friends with Diana all along.” And yes, it was Davis herself in the photo, as the actress wrote, “It was so good to say hi and catch up with everyone for just one day.” You can see Davis’ post down below.

Though Gadot and others have said Wonder Woman 1984 isn’t a traditional sequel, it’s clear thought was put into how it would connect to the first film. The Diana in Wonder Woman 1984 is more closed off from personal attachments, and the reason why is best exemplified in those pictures in her apartment: Everyone she was close to has passed away, while she remains the same age forever. Etta’s brief Wonder Woman 1984 cameo might’ve been missed by many, but it’s a sweet acknowledgement of her role in the first one and her friendship with Diana.

Fan and critical response to Wonder Woman 1984 isn’t quite as glowing as it was for the first movie, but a Wonder Woman 3 is already on the way. Gadot hopes the next film will be set in the present day, which could make it even harder to connect to Diana’s first onscreen solo adventure. However, perhaps it might be smart to move into new territory for Diana. There can still be references to her past friends, but don’t expect anyone to show up in person.
