Zack Snyder reveals a new shot of Wonder Woman’s original Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice backstory. Snyder’s second DCEU film brought some of DC’s biggest characters together for the first time on the big screen. As Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) squared off against each other, Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince made her highly-anticipated big screen debut. As it was the first time Wonder Woman had ever been depicted in a live-action movie, Snyder created his own backstory for her; originally, Batman v Superman revealed Wonder Woman had participated in the Crimean War, which was to be her first introduction to the world of men.

However, the creation of 2017’s Wonder Woman changed this. Director Patty Jenkins sought to tell a different story for the iconic hero, and Snyder made the necessary adjustments for Batman v Superman. Instead of the Crimean War, Diana had a hand in World War I, a move that gave way for Wonder Woman‘s best scene. In order to reach an occupied village, Diana crosses No Man’s Land and cements herself as a hero unlike any other. Based on that scene alone, it’s safe to say the change to WWI was a smart one.

Nevertheless, many fans are still interested in what Diana’s Crimean War story might have looked like, and now they have an idea of it. While appearing on ComicBook Debate for an interview, Snyder gave fans a peek at the photo of Diana’s original backstory from Batman v Superman. Snyder had the photo behind him for the interview and later gave TheNerdQueens permission to show a clearer look, which can be seen down below.

Fans will know that the picture ultimately became one of Diana, Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), and their friends following the No Man’s Land battle. The placeholder image Snyder shared has a similar vibe, in that it shows Diana standing among the people she (presumably) fought with in the war. The main purpose behind the picture’s presence in Batman v Superman was to show Diana hadn’t aged at all. In that sense, this image would’ve worked just fine.

Much of Diana’s DCEU story has been relegated to the past, as both of her solo movies take place in decades from the 1900s. Batman v Superman aside (as well as Justice League, which Jenkins says contradicts her Diana), audiences have seen little of Wonder Woman in the present day. It’s expected that the recently-confirmed Wonder Woman 3 will finally bring the heroine into today, which will provide the opportunity for some new shades to the character. It will be interesting to see how she’s changed since her very first DCEU appearance.
