Warning: This article contains spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Wong is looking a little worse for wear in a brand new image from the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Doctor Strange 2 will be the fifth theatrical film released in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s meteoric rise into the top 10 domestic films of all time. It will follow directly from the events of that film, in which Peter Parker asked Doctor Strange to cast a spell to make the world forget his secret identity. The spell goes catastrophically wrong, causing a multiversal collision that sends villains and heroes from previous Spider-Man universes spilling into the MCU.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The post-credits scene from No Way Home was a montage of scenes from Doctor Strange 2. In addition to showing Doctor Strange’s reunion with Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), isolated in the cabin she moved to following the events of Disney+’s WandaVision, it revealed the presence of an evil multiversal version of Doctor Strange himself. The film, which was directed by horror maestro Sam Raimi, promises to take the character to a much darker place.

USA Today just shared a brand new exclusive image from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in an article about upcoming 2022 releases. It looks like Doctor Strange’s multiversal struggles will affect all of his compatriots. Benedict Wong’s character Wong, who is now the Sorcerer Supreme, is depicted restrained by a magical force with a bloody cut on his forehead. Whatever just happened in this scene, he has come out on the losing end of it. Check out the full-size photo below:

Doctor Strange 2 will feature the return of several other characters from the Doctor Strange universe. In addition to Doctor Strange and Wong, Rachel McAdams will be returning as love interest Christine Palmer and Chiwetel Ejiofor will return as turncoat sorcerer Karl Mordo. Xochitl Gomez will also be joining the cast as new character America Chavez.
