WrestleMania, which first took to the ring in 1985, is the longest-running and most successful professional wrestling event. As first envisioned by WWE chairman Vince McMahon, WrestleMania is considered to be the WWE’s most significant showdown, proudly sitting atop the entertainment company’s “Big Five” events of the year. With a culture that often lends itself to a flare for the spectacular and outlandish, fans often witness crossover from the realm of cosplay. Throughout the WWE’s history, wrestlers have entered the flagship event in costumes inspired by various aspects of the entertainment industry. WrestleMania 38 is no exception to the trend.

As shared on Twitter via WWE WrestleMania, Ripley and Morgan recently debuted their new costumes inspired by DC Comic fan favorites Batman and Catwoman. The Tag Team duo entered the second night of WrestleMania 38, making a big statement leading up to their Fatal-4-Way Championship match. While the night revealed its fair share of surprises, the duo’s Cosplay crossover arguably garnered one of the most significant responses. Cosplay is no stranger to the WWE. Wrestling star Rey Mysterio has hit the ring in both Joaquin Phoenix and Heath Ledger’s versions of The Joker. In WrestleMania 33, Seth Rollins dressed as the Kingslayer monicker from Game of Thrones in his match with Triple H. Ripley herself previously delved into the cosplay world as well, dressing as Saiyan Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z in her first WrestleMania appearance. The list goes on and on, with seemingly no end in sight regarding cosplay crossover in the WWE.

Wearing a wardrobe inspired by DC Comics is a fun and timely choice on the heels of The Batman‘s successful release. It’s relatively apparent that the film’s influence will be filtering its way down a plethora of entertainment avenues, with WrestleMania being just one that holds an enormously loyal fanbase. Audiences can invariably count on the WWE to bring things to a whole new level, and fans can look forward to what the famous entertainment outlet will come up with next.
