In a new preview for the second issue of X-Men Legends, Cyclops’ father proves he’s a cold-blooded killer. Corsair is known for being a pirate, but very rarely is he an actual villain to the X-Men considering how much he has worked with them in the past. Now, the extent of his morality is coming into question.

Though he has no powers, Corsair has proven to be a worthwhile foe to his enemies and holds his own as the captain of the Starjammers – a group of space pirates. Corsair is the known father of Cyclops, Havok, and Vulcan. It has been revealed that Adam-X is the true third Summers brother. The first issue of X-Men Legends showed Cyclops and Havok trying to locate Adam so they could save their grandparents after receiving a Shi’ar ultimatum.

The preview for X-Men Legends #2 – written by Fabian Nicieza with art by Brett Booth – picks up where the first issue in this series left off. Corsair revealed the identity of Adam as a Summers brother to Cyclops and Havok just before firing his pistol. At the time it could be assumed that Corsair was aiming to shoot Adam, but this special look shows the actual shot happen:

  • THE SECRET OF ADAM-X – REVEALED AT LAST!It’s the SUMMERS BROTHERS and STARJAMMERS vs. ERIK THE RED and the SHI’AR with the fate of the galaxy at stake, as the full truth behind ADAM-X’s lineage is revealed in a story nearly 30 years in the making!

X-Men Legends has been in the making for around thirty years, so this story is connected to comics that have long since been published, including Captain Marvel #3 from 1995 and X-Men (1991) #39. As a result, some of the names may be familiar to newer X-Men fans who have been reading newer issues involving the Shi’ar, but this storyline and its context may feel a little removed. Older fans may remember Adam-X, or Adam Neramani, from his introduction in the 1990s. X-Men #39 showed Adam saving Philip Summers’ life in Alaska, which Adam mentioned in the previous issue, but after that, Adam wasn’t around much more until he was included in Utopia and then Krakoa. His history as a member of the Summers’ family has not been fully told, but at first glance this preview makes it seem like his story is over before it has fully begun again.

Although Corsair is a pirate who has been in a lot of fights, he has most often been seen as an ally to the X-Men. He has helped the X-Men fight D’Ken the former Shi’ar emperor, helped the Shi’ar fight Galactus, and has taken Charles Xavier to Lilandra. Overall, Corsair has had a history of being a relatively good guy, despite being an intergalactic criminal due to acts of piracy. Even now he seems to justify his shooting of Adam by saying he has saved “the lives of several trillion people.” Due to Adam just returning, it is unlikely Corsair has actually killed him, although he may believe he has. With this preview being so short, it is uncertain exactly what Adam’s fate is, what Corsair’s larger role is in this conflict, or how Cyclops and Havok will react to having yet another brother. What IS clear is that Corsair can kill in cold-blood if he thinks it is the right thing to do – with the right price tag.
