X-Men: Apocalypse star Olivia Munn tries and fails to bring back Psylocke’s sword-swinging skills in a hilarious new video. Munn started her career by hosting Attack of the Show! on the G4 network in 2006. Munn left the show in 2010 and went on to become a correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart until 2011. After leaving The Daily Show, Munn starred in various films, including Magic Mike, Deliver Us from Evil, and Ride Along 2. The actress also starred in the award-winning Aaron Sorkin series, The Newsroom, which aired for three seasons from 2012 to 2014.

In 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, she played Betsy Braddock, also known as Psylocke. Psylocke is known for her psychic abilities but she’s also known for holding a signature energy blade. Munn wielded this blade throughout Apocalypse and went through a lot of training to do so. Munn is already experienced in combative fighting, earning a black belt in taekwondo. But gaining skills in swordplay took some practice.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In a new video posted on Twitter, Munn reunites with her Psylocke blade and shows off some moves. However, her sword work appears to be a little rusty and ends with disastrous results. Munn starts off strong, slowly tossing the sword around before getting into some tricks. Once she gets into some intricate work, she accidentally hits the wall behind her. After a loud thud, she looks back at the wall and then looks at the camera, hilariously stunned. The mistake causes Munn to abruptly stop recording herself. She captioned the funny video, “This is why we can’t have nice things.”

Apocalypse was considered a bomb, receiving terrible reviews and underperforming at the box office. Behind-the-scenes troubles may have contributed to the downfall of the movie, with Munn even saying that director Bryan Singer abandoned the set for 10 days in the middle of filming. Psylocke was barely featured in Apocalypse and was rumored to appear in the following film, Dark Phoenix. However, Dark Phoenix premiered to equally poor reviews and Psylocke was nowhere in sight.

The future of the X-Men franchise is a question mark, as the property now belongs to Marvel Studios and is no longer under development at Fox. The previous films received such a negative response from critics and fans alike, many considered them to be the end of the franchise altogether. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to turn the film industry on its head, there’s no telling when many planned blockbuster movies, The New Mutants included, will be released. Only time will tell if the new movie is enough to revitalize the X-Men franchise. If it does, we know that Olivia Munn will be more than ready to take on the role of Psylocke again.
