Content Warning: The following article contains spoilers for the Showtime series Yellowjackets, as well as discussions of drugs, suicide, abuse, and cannibalism.

Showtime’s Yellowjackets thrust viewers into an intriguing world full of deceit, drama, and cannibalism. The female-led series has some jarring moments that are often underscored by unforgettable lines that reveal the characters’ complex personalities, which the series explores in two distinct time periods.

From Misty’s chilling paraphrasing of Plato’s words to Lottie’s haunting predictions, the best quotes from the show often highlight the characters’ personalities and reactions to their absurd situations. With the first season of the series coming to an end, it’s the perfect time to look back at the lines that will stay with fans long after they’re done watching the final episode.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Misty Quigley:

“You Can Think What You Want. Opinion Is The Wilderness Between Knowledge And Ignorance.”

One of the earliest moments fans get a glimpse into Misty’s twisted mind is when she’s bullied over a phone call by a group of girls. When taunted about her sexual history, Misty stays calm and paraphrases Plato, which predictably only worsens the situation.

Misty has always been bullied for being the weird one, and while it’s easy to feel sympathetic towards her, she does some horrifying things in the series that definitely cross the line. While it’s implied that Misty is a villain who will become a hero when she helps Nat, Tai, and Shauna dispose of Adam’s body, as with everything else in the show, her role isn’t black-and-white.

Natalie Scatorccio:

“It Doesn’t Matter How S****y They Are, It Still F***s You Up When They’re Gone.”

It’s safe to say that Nat is the one person who can truly empathize with Travis’ loss after the plane crash. She grew up in an abusive household and lost her father in a horrific way after he tripped and shot himself in the face.

When Travis feels conflicted about his emotions after his terrible father’s death, Nat assures him that it’s normal to react that way. It’s a touching moment that highlights the depth of their connection and signals the beginning of what will hopefully turn out to be a loving relationship that breaks the cycle of violence they’ve both become accustomed to.

Adam Martin:

“We Are What We Pretend To Be, So We Must Be Careful What We Pretend To Be.”

Adam unwittingly starts the “book club” excuse when he quotes Kurt Vonnegut in front of Shauna. The two bump into each other during an unfortunate time for Shauna, as she’s waiting to catch Jeff cheating on her in that hotel.

Shauna agrees to get a drink with Adam but is obviously preoccupied even as she nods and fake smiles her way through his stories. She only snaps out of it to continue the Vonnegut line, which impresses Adam, who’s already head over heels for her at that point. It’s a telling quote that turns out to be more about Shauna than Adam, as fans know the tragic fate he suffers soon after.

Taissa Turner:

“I’ll Perfectly Calibrate My Tongue, As I Tell You To Go F**k Yourself.”

It isn’t easy for Taissa to be the badass woman that she is in politics, as there’s immense pressure to conform and bend to the rich and powerful. This is especially evident during her encounter with Diane, an influential donor she has been waiting to meet.

Taissa wins her over with her idealism and optimism about the future but is quickly disappointed to learn that Diane’s price is to learn about the untold story behind the crash. The frustration becomes too much for Taissa, who angrily but rightly responds with a harsh line after Diane tells her to watch her tone.

Natalie Scatorccio:

“Come On. Who Hasn’t Rolled Over A Broken Tray Table While Making Out In A Blood-Stained Death Trap?”

Things don’t go too well for Nat and Travis the first few times they attempt to have sex in the dilapidated airplane. Since it’s Travis’ first time, he seems to have some unrealistic expectations about how things should be and thinks that everything should go perfectly.

Nat, on the other hand, injects humor and lightheartedness into the situation, which only irritates Travis. Her comment about the “broken tray table” and Travis’ perplexed reaction perfectly captures the stark difference in their level of maturity, despite being around the same age.

Shauna Sadecki:

“That’s 50 Grand? A Little Bit Disappointing By Heist Movie Standards.”

Shauna’s dry and often dark humor always comes at the perfect time. Despite the stressful situation the trio finds themselves in with their mysterious blackmailer, Shauna manages to keep the mood light by joking about the “50 grand” not looking like much money.

It’s even more hilarious when Taissa and Nat realize that this complicates their plan, as the bag Shauna has for the money is way too big, not to mention there’s nowhere to hide their tracker. Some quick thinking by Nat solves the problem, as she inserts the tracker in an empty bag of chips. Just like in the wilderness, none of them really know what they’re doing, but they try anyway.

Natalie Scatorccio:

“You Guys Are Just As F****d Up As I Am. You’re Just Better At Hiding It.”

There’s no denying that the show wouldn’t be as entertaining without the badass female protagonist, Nat. That said, the ways she has been coping with her traumatic experiences after the crash haven’t all been healthy.

Her several attempts at rehab do little to change her addiction to drugs and alcohol, which is concerning for her friends. One of Nat’s outbursts reveals that she believes Taissa and Shauna are just as messed up as she is, which is far truer than either of them are willing to admit – Tai has her sleepwalking episodes and Shauna is reckless and impulsive.

Jeff Sadecki:

“Shauna, We’ve Always Been These People. Secrets Have Always Been A Part Of Us.”

Things come crashing down and Shauna’s twisted family dynamic turns out to be worse than anyone could have imagined when audiences learn that Jeff is the blackmailer. Perhaps an even bigger revelation for Shauna is that her husband has always known about all the unspeakable things that happened in the wilderness.

There’s a tear-jerking moment when Shauna asks Jeff when they became “these people who lie and cheat and do awful things,” to which he responds in a simple but honest way. It feels like a callback to how their relationship started out as an affair that had to be hidden from Jackie, which still haunts Shauna to this day.

Lottie Matthews:

“We Won’t Be Hungry Much Longer.”

Lottie’s scary demonic possession seems to be just the start of her supernatural role in the group. Fans may recall how even as a kid, Lottie has had unexplainable experiences with the paranormal, which are often linked to her predictions.

Her visions have always come to pass so far, like the “river of blood” and Laura Lee’s death in the sky. Her most ominous line seems to hint at how the women will eventually resort to cannibalism to satiate their hunger, especially because winter is right around the corner.

Jackie Taylor:

“Friendship Doesn’t Matter. Love Doesn’t Matter. They’re Just Things That We Use To Pretend We Aren’t Gonna End Up Like Dead Cabin Guy Like Rotted-Out Husks In Some B******t Attic.”

Although Jackie starts out as a popular, friendly, optimistic, and likable character, her time in the wilderness has changed her. Learning about Shauna’s deceit is the last straw for Jackie, who decides she doesn’t care if she hurts Nat’s feelings by sleeping with Travis.

When Travis expresses his hesitation, Jackie rants for a long time about how things like love and friendship don’t really matter because like the dead guy in the attic, people are “just shells with nothing inside.” It’s worrying to see her perspective shift so drastically, but it’s an understandable reaction to the impossible situation she and her closest friends find themselves in.
