Yellowjackets Finale Trailer: The Team Gets Rid Of A Dead Body

A new trailer for the Yellowjackets finale shows the main characters arriving at their high school reunion, but not before disposing of a dead body. The horror mystery series premiered on Showtime in November to rave reviews. Created by husband and wife team Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, Yellowjackets explores the fates of stranded plane crash survivors in two distinct timelines. The first unfolds in 1996 as a teenage soccer team does whatever it can to survive, even if that means entertaining the idea of cannibalism. Meanwhile, in the present day, the adult Yellowjackets deal with the resulting trauma and continue to uncover secrets.

Things continue to escalate for the adult survivors in episode 9, titled “Doomcoming.” After weeks of speculation concerning Adam’s (Peter Gadiot) true identity, Yellowjackets plunges a knife into any theories that the character would stick around. Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) also realizes that her husband, Jeff (Warren Kole), is the blackmailer, making Adam’s death all the more tragic. Confronted with the consequences of her actions, not to mention her family’s financial future, Shauna convinces Taissa (Tawny Cypress) and Natalie (Juliette Lewis) that Adam was indeed the blackmailer.    

In the new promo (via TV Promos) for the Yellowjackets season finale, titled “Sic Transit Gloria Mundi,” Misty (Christina Ricci) takes charge of the body removal. “Aren’t we a bunch of gloomy Guses,” chirps Misty. “Let’s suit up and get to work!” The other Yellowjackets are less chipper, and the brutality of the crime–compounded by 25 years of unresolved trauma–weighs heavily on Shauna. “What if we’re all just broken from what happened to us?” Hopefully, the gang puts on a poker face ahead of their high school reunion. The trailer teases violence out in the wilderness, too. In episode 9, audiences saw the first spark of bloodshed among the increasingly feral teens. Incited by berry hooch, mushrooms, and mob mentality, the girls nearly sacrifice Travis before a levelheaded Natalie steps in. The finale trailer, however, suggests that violence continues to loom as winter approaches. “Something is out there,” says Van (Liv Hewson), who could be referring to another pack of wolves or something more sinister. Lottie (Courtney Eaton), meanwhile, can be seen bludgeoning something–or someone–with a rock. 

As tensions mount in the 1996 timeline, the finale’s real climax promises to be the high school reunion. If the probing eyes of the reunion attendees are any indication, the surviving Yellowjackets are still a mystery, or even a threat, to their classmates. Given the series’ myriad twists and turns, one can’t rule out a surprise appearance at the reunion, such as another survivor. While it is implied that Jackie (Ella Purnell) is dead, the fates of Van and Lottie are still unknown. Perhaps another prestige ‘90s actress will return to shake up the Yellowjackets finale. It premieres on January 16 on Showtime.
