Twitter is currently down, giving users headaches ranging from the inability to send tweets to refreshing their homepage. This appears to the first major outage for Twitter services in 2022. As usual, the performance woes have just started raising their head and there is no official clarity as to when the issues will be resolved for good. Also, one can’t be sure whether an Amazon Web Services container got knocked out, or if it was due to some internal server-side issues that are causing service disruption.

The downtime comes just a day after Twitter reported its financial results, the company’s first under new CEO Parag Agrawal following the departure of Jack Dorsey. The company says its daily active users (mDAU) count worldwide reached the 217 million mark, scoring a boost of 13 percent on a yearly basis. While the company gave an upbeat forecast to investors, the eponymous service is now experiencing a downtime merely a day later.

As per Downdetector, users started reporting problems at roughly 12pm ET, with the number of error reports already crossing the 25,000 margin within an hour. Interestingly, Twitter’s API status page, which provides a real-time look and historical data on system performance, was showing a green status for quite a while as Twitter users scrambled for answers. Also, Twitter appears to be misfiring in varied ways for users in different locations. For some users, they can’t send a tweet, while a few say they can’t load the replies section on mobile. The Twitter timelines appear to be loading just fine at the moment, but that differs from person to person as of now.

It also appears that the snags are not the same across Twitter’s mobile and desktop versions. The aforementioned issues like the inability to send tweets or see replies affect mobile apps. On a desktop browser, trying to open the Twitter homepage URL simply returns an inexplicable error that says “Something went wrong,” without any explanation, of course. Twitter, on the other hand, has acknowledged the service hiccups and says it is “experiencing an elevated level of API errors” and that it was looking into the problems that are giving Twitter users a hard time.

However, the company is still in the dark about the scope of impact, and whether it is just limited to regular users or if enterprise users are also running into problems. Currently, Twitter’s API Status page says the company is having issues with v2 Tweet and v2 user endpoint. In Twitter’s own words, endpoints are what allow users to post a tweet, chat with other people, retrieve information such as tweets, look up user profiles, access their Direct Messages page, open lists, check the trends, and more. It also appears that the problem is not just limited to one region in particular. Users across North America, Europe, and Asia have reported running into performance hurdles.
