You season 3 continued Joe’s relationship with Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) after season 2, but the suburban life they started together eventually led to him developing a romantic relationship with Marienne Bellamy, a librarian who shared his love of literature.

Even before You season 3’s release in October 2021, Netflix had already announced that this wouldn’t be the last time viewers would see Joe Goldberg. You season 4 was officially announced just a few weeks before the show’s return, and viewers quickly found out how season 3 set it up. Joe’s relationships with Love and Marienne played prominent roles throughout the latest 10 episodes. It was the You season 3 finale that set up the show’s international setting for season 4, as Joe traveled to Paris to chase after Marienne.

It was recently confirmed that You season 4 is now filming, and it didn’t take long for set photos to surface online. The first batch of photos from Just Jared show Penn Badgley back in action as Joe Goldberg, but they also revealed the first look at Gabrielle’s return as Marienne. She has a very different look than the last time viewers saw her, as she’s changed her short hairstyle to long white braids. Gabrielle’s Marienne is shown running through the streets in the photos as well.

Gabrielle’s return for You season 4 comes on the heels of her major role in Sony’s live-action Uncharted movie, where she played villain Jo Braddock. Based on these You set photos, it is confirmed that audiences will see Joe continue his pursuit of Marienne in the next season. However, it also appears that she still wants nothing to do with him. Marienne’s new look could be one of her ways to avoid Joe recognizing her. Since it doesn’t seem like that worked, Gabrielle running from Badgley on the You season 4 set essentially confirms that she is trying to lose him.

These potential teases of Marienne’s role in You season 4 are quite fascinating, especially after Gabrielle shared her hopes for what could come next. The actress wanted to see Marienne become Joe’s foil or avoid him and get a happy ending. It’s unclear if either of Gabrielle’s ideas has been incorporated into her You season 4 character arc. However, viewers will just be happy to know that there will be more of Marienne in the upcoming season. Now, they’ll just have to hope that she doesn’t become Joe’s latest victim.
