The latest trailer for the second half of Young Justice: Phantoms has been released and hints at some major team-ups for the latter half of the series. Premiering in November 2010, Young Justice follows a team of teenage superheroes who go on covert black ops missions that the bigger names of the DC Universe can’t be seen doing in the public. The series was critically acclaimed but was canceled in 2013 after two seasons and later brought back for a third season in 2019 on the DC Universe streaming app. Season 4 then moved over to HBO Max with the subtitle, Young Justice: Phantoms.

Young Justice: Phantoms premiered its first two episodes on October 16, 2021, after DC FanDome and ran for 13 episodes until December 30 when the series went on hiatus. The season’s posters and opening credits have put a great deal of emphasis on the original team from Young Justice season 1, which has been a welcome return for fans who felt many took a backseat in seasons 2 and 3 due to the expanding roster of characters. The first three story arcs of the season focused on Miss Martian, Superboy, Artemis, and Zatanna leaving the remaining episodes to focus on Nightwing, Aqualad, and Rocket.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Now, HBO Max has released a new trailer for the mid-season premiere of Young Justice: Phantoms, showcasing a great deal of action and intrigue for what is to come, featuring the villainous Darkseid, bombings, and undersea battles. The trailer says the season will resume in spring, but no official date is given. However, the first official day of spring is set for March 20, 2022, so their series could air sometime shortly before or after that. The season is expected to run for 13 additional episodes, putting season 4 at 26 episodes. Watch the trailer below:

Nightwing is the least featured in the trailer, but given the character had a major role in season 3, it is likely he will be on hand to support the other characters. The trailer shows a brief hint at Aqualad’s story with a few action sequences set at Atlantis, with Aquaman, Mera and possibly King Shark. Rocket interestingly is paired with The Forever People and other New Gods, like Metatron and Orion, suggesting her storyline will tie heavily into the Apokolips arc that was very much a part of the series’ previous season. Rocket gets her powers from an alien device called the Inertia Belt, which she received from her mentor, Icon, who is an alien himself, so there is a chance the two have a connection to the New Gods of New Genesis and Apokolips.

Extra emphasis is also put on The Sentinels of Magic, who were assembled in the final four episodes of Young Justice: Phantom’s first half, with Zatanna being at the center of it. In one scene, she is under the persona of Doctor Fate, as she and other DC magic users have agreed to share the time wearing the helmet of the Lord of Order, and the final shot of the trailer is her looking intense, which suggests her role in the story is far from over. The mid-credit scene of the first half of Young Justice: Phantoms showed one of Zatanna’s proteges, Mary Marvel, succumbing to the temptation of Granny Goodness, suggesting she will begin working with the villains and something that Zatanna will have to grapple with before the finale.
