Young Wanda Maximoff Actress Becomes Scarlet Witch For Halloween

Michaela Russell, the child actress who played Wanda Maximoff in WandaVision, dressed up as a young Scarlet Witch for Halloween. WandaVision is MCU’s first miniseries to premiere this year on Disney+. It features the Marvel superheroes Wanda and Vision who find themselves living as a perfect husband and wife in an idyllic town after the events of Avengers: Endgame. It is later revealed that their blissful, sitcom-like setting is happening in Wanda’s alternate reality as she tries to cope with Vision’s death.

Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprised their roles as Wanda and Vision, with Kathryn Hahn joining the cast as the villain Agatha Harkness. Russell, a 12-year-old child star, portrayed young Wanda in the series’ penultimate episode entitled “Previously On.” The flashback episode provided a glimpse at the superhero’s childhood as she lived with her parents and twin brother Pietro in Sokovia. It is also in this episode that audiences learned that Wanda has always had magical abilities since she was a young girl. As the story returned to the present, Agatha realized that Wanda had the legendary chaos magic and dubbed her as the Scarlet Witch.

As Halloween festivities kick in, Russell got back into her WandaVision character. This time, she transformed into a young version of Scarlet Witch, wearing the Marvel superhero’s signature red suit and matching headpiece. The pre-teen actress shared a snap of herself as she greeted her followers with a “Happy Halloween weekend.” Many fans commented on her adorable costume and her uncanny resemblance to Olsen’s character. WandaVision sets the stage for Olsen’s return to the MCU in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The upcoming film, which is slated to premiere in 2022, will see Wanda fully embracing her heightened telekinetic and telepathic powers as Scarlet Witch. While it is unclear whether Russell will have future roles in the franchise as Wanda’s younger self, a WandaVision spin-off series is rumored to be in development with Hahn reprising her role as Agatha Harkness.

Since Olsen debuted in the MCU as Wanda/Scarlet Witch back in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, the character has been a central figure to the franchise. Many fans, especially young girls, adored the powerful heroine since the Marvel universe is dominated by male superheroes. Wanda is the second female lead to be a part of the Avengers after Scarlet Johansson’s Black Widow. Thanks to WandaVision‘s success and the buzz about the next Doctor Strange 2, many little girls are sure to copy Russell’s look as Wanda becomes a staple in this year’s Halloween parties.
