After completing the Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel tutorial, duelists will be able to choose between one of three Structure Decks, each of which offers its own benefits and play style. The Power of the Dragon Structure Deck features some old-school-style monsters, while Synchro of Unity and Link Generation Decks use some powerful mechanics introduced later in TCG’s twenty-year run. However, the game’s tutorial doesn’t cover the more complicated Summoning mechanics that these Decks feature, which can make deciding between them difficult, especially for new and returning players.

Fortunately, Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel gives players the opportunity to unlock the Decks left unchosen once they level up enough, and, with all of the cards available in packs and bundles, players can quickly build the perfect Deck to suit their own playstyle. By entering Ranked Duels with other players or completing Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel’s Solo campaigns, players can earn Gems to buy card packs in the shop. The Structure Decks give duelists a great base Deck to start with, allowing them to dive right in and start playing so they can add to their Deck as they progress.

In addition to the first Structure Deck players choose, which they receive for free, there are also a variety of other Structure Decks available for purchase from the shop, like the Magician of Pendulum and Re-Contract Universe Decks. Between these Decks and Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel’s wide variety of card packs, duelists can easily get the cards they need to build their own top-tier Deck in no time. Finding Super Rare and Ultra Rare cards in packs will also unlock Secret Packs of the same archetype, allowing players to pull from more specific packs for 24 hours and narrow down the types of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards they can get.

How to Choose the Best Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel Structure Deck

For Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel players who are new to the TCG or are returning and need a refresher, the Power of the Dragon Structure Deck is the best choice of the three. Featuring powerful Dragon monsters and the Fusion Summoning mechanic from the earliest days of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, this Structure Deck keeps things simple for players who aren’t caught up with the game’s newer and more complicated rules. The Power of the Dragon Deck pits opponents against heavy-hitting monsters with high attack power, including Yu-Gi-Oh’s! iconic Blue-Eyes White Dragon that many fans of the franchise are familiar with.

Of the three introductory Structure Decks Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel offers, the Synchro Unity Deck is the most technically complicated, but it features some great Synchro monsters with effects that can give players a major advantage. Synchro Summoning requires duelists to combine a monster known as a Tuner with another non-Tuner monster to bring out a powerful Synchro monster from the Extra Deck. While this playstyle can be a bit more difficult to learn than those of the other Structure Decks, the Synchro Unity Structure Deck is built with new and old players in mind and makes it easy to get monsters out on the field, making it one of the best choices for any player.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel’s Link Generation Structure Deck lets duelists dig into Link Summoning, the newest mechanic introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG. Link monsters take advantage of their board position to allow players to summon additional Extra Deck monsters to the field, and they can be sacrificed to summon stronger Link monsters as the game progresses. While this Structure Deck isn’t the most viable on its own, it provides a strong basis for players to build an incredibly powerful deck as they collect more cards from packs and crafting.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox X|S Series, and Nintendo Switch.
