One of the best duelists of all time in the world of Yu-Gi-Oh!, except for maybe Yugi himself, is Seto Kaiba, president of KaibaCorp and the creator of the holographic technology that brings the creatures of Duel Monsters to life. There are very few that can stand against him, except maybe the creator of Duel Monsters himself, Pegasus.

The two have faced off numerous times, with a different victor rising to the top at different times. While both are legends in the world of Duel Monsters, which of the two is superior, who is the better duelist among the two?

10 Kaiba: Continues Dueling After Duelist Kingdom

You can’t be a strong duelist if you just sort of stop dueling once you’re defeated. That’s what happens to Pegasus. After he is defeated by Yugi in Duelist Kingdom, he really steps out of the spotlight and is almost never seen dueling again.

Kaiba, on the other hand, who always loses to Yugi, never stops dueling in his quest to climb back to No. 1, and fights day in and day out to prove he’s the best.

9 Pegasus: Better Archetype Focus

Pegasus has smarter deck composition than Kaiba, as he centers his deck on toon monsters and just a handful of cards outside of the archetype.

While Kaiba loves dragons and does theme his deck after the creatures, it is a lot more freeform than Pegasus’s rigid structure. It shows that Pegasus took a bit more care when crafting his deck than Kaiba might have.

8 Kaiba: Didn’t Create The Game

At the same time, though, Kaiba didn’t actually create the game, he has to work with what he has. While he does have the money to seek out most cards that he would want, he doesn’t have unlimited access to every card that exists, like Pegasus does.

While Pegasus might have more of a focused deck, that’s because he has access to any cards he wants, and can even make new ones to fit his theme. That doesn’t exactly put the two on equal footing. Props have to go to Kaiba on this one.

7 Pegasus: Can Create Any Sort Of Deck He Wants

Pegasus created the game of Duel Monsters, so he is privy to some advantages. This includes being able to build any sort of deck that he wants to.

Nevertheless, he sticks to his toon monsters every time we see him duel, which does give a bit of an advantage to his opponents. Rather than surprising them with a new strategy every time he duels them, he keeps things pretty consistent and is still an excellent duelist.

6 Kaiba: Doesn’t Have To Cheat

Throughout the first season of the anime, Pegasus uses the powers of his Millennium Eye to read the minds of his opponents to take them down. He beats all who dare go against him easily because of this advantage.

Kaiba doesn’t have any sort of powers like Pegasus and manages to win a lot more duels than Pegasus does. Kaiba wins fair and square every time he duels, and Pegasus can’t stay the same.

5 Kaiba: The Egyptian God Cards

It can’t be ignored that Kaiba managed to take out all of the Egyptian God Cards in Pyramid of Light. While the way he did this was, not exactly through the greatest means, he still manages to do so. He also has the power to control the cards, which very, very few duelists have.

Kaiba’s ability to both wield and destroy the God Cards has to be commended, because not even the creator, Pegasus, is able to do such a thing.

4 Kaiba: Beats Pegasus Legally

In terms of the anime, Toon World is not a legal card, it was never released to the public because of its overwhelming power.

Nevertheless, Pegasus uses this card in all of his duels, which is a flagrant violation of the rules, or at the very least, is not a sportsmanlike thing to do. Kaiba uses cards that everyone has access to… mostly. Blue-Eyes notwithstanding.

3 Pegasus: Had The Genius Of Creating Every Card In Existence

It should be noted just how intelligent Pegasus is to be able to have created every single card in the Duel Monsters game. He changed the world with the game, and that is not an easy thing to do.

Sure, he also unleashed plenty of evil villains who planned to take over the world through card games when he created it as well, but who could ever plan on that happening?

2 Kaiba: Competes With Honor

As noted earlier, every card that Kaiba competes with was actually released into the game. He fights with integrity in all of his duels.

Pegasus hides behind cards that were never released and doesn’t have the same type of honor that Kaiba has. However, that isn’t all that Pegasus hides behind, as the use of his Millennium Eye is just cheating.

1 Kaiba: Pegasus Almost Never Wins Without The Eye

After Pegasus loses his Millennium Eye, he never is able to recover, and barely ever wins any duels ever again, except for one in GX.

He used his Millennium Eye to win so often that he came to only be able to win because of it, and once it was lost, he wasn’t the same. He lost to Mai and Kaiba after losing his eye and was never able to return to the glory that he once had.
