Zachary Levi recently shared his thoughts on the death of his character, Fandral, in Thor: Ragnarok. Levi also revealed that Fandral’s last line was cut from the film. The character was murdered by Hela (Cate Blanchett) during her invasion of Asgard.

As a member of the Asgardian trio known as the Warriors Three, Fandral was originally portrayed by Josh Dallas in Thor, after Levi dropped out due to scheduling difficulties with Chuck. The role was recast with Levi for the sequel, Thor: The Dark World. For the third film in the trilogy, Ragnarok, Thor’s supporting cast was revamped, which left out Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster and her crew, Lady Sif (Jamie Alexander), and limited the Warriors Three to cameo appearances.

During a panel at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest, Levi talked about Fandral’s death and expressed his disappointment over his departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Levi, a scene was shot with his character charging at Hela and yelling the words, “For Asgard!” However, the phrase was cut from the film.

For those of you who have watched the movie, you see that Cate Blanchett comes out and she very just willy-nilly throws some knives of demonic purpose, I don’t know, they’re evil knives impaling both me and Volstagg, killing us instantly. The End. What is on the cutting room floor is me charging at Hela and getting impaled and going ‘For Asgard.’ No s***, I had my last line, my last words in the Marvel Universe were ‘For Asgard.’ Cutting room floor. And when I shot that,  it was… yeah, it was a bummer.

While Fandral and Volstagg (Ray Stephenson) were immediately slaughtered by Hela, the last remaining member of the Warriors Three, Hogun (Tadanobu Asano) received more screen time than his comrades and got an opportunity to lead Asgardian soldiers into battle with Hela. Unfortunately, he too was killed. Some fans were frustrated that the Warriors Three, who had integral roles in the previous two films, were reduced to cameos in Ragnarok.

Though Levi has stated that he wishes that he could have done more in the MCU, the actor may soon have his hands full now that he’s been cast as the lead in DC’s Shazam! Levi will play iconic superhero Shazam, with Asher Angel playing his alter-ego, Billy Batson.
