Zack Snyder regrets not having done more work to set up a solo Cyborg movie. A film starring Cyborg was announced back in 2014 along with a slate of DC Comics films that included Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and a two-part Justice League film. Cyborg was given a release date for April 3, 2020, yet the film never came to pass.

Wonder Woman and Aquaman both made it to the big screen, and despite all the delays and director changes, Warner Bros. has made The Flash a priority. On the other hand, Cyborg appears to be a character Warner Bros., and the film side of DC has forgotten about. Snyder claimed Cyborg was the heart of his cut of Justice League, and most of Cyborg’s scenes were removed or reshot in the theatrical cut of the film, reducing his character’s overall presence.

In an interview with Esquire, Snyder elaborates on how he wished he had done more to set up the Cyborg movie before Justice League as he had for Wonder Woman and Aquaman. Wonder Woman came out before Justice League, and Aquaman came out after, but Snyder helped get those two films through the development process, and both films had directors attached before the release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Snyder ended Justice League with Cyborg ready to go off in his own solo film that never materialized. Snyder said:

“I’m very sad that I didn’t push harder to set up the Cyborg movie before we shot Justice League because I’d done a lot of work to set up Wonder Woman and Aquaman and to get those movies on their feet. And I really wish I had done that with Cyborg because he’s really on his feet at the end of the movie. He’s really ready to go. And I just thought, well, the truth is I just assumed that it was a no brainer that a Cyborg movie would be in the works. You know what I mean? It seems like so obvious.”

Now a Cyborg movie seems even more unlikely. Despite Ray Fisher expressing interest in returning to the character, he will not work on any film under Walter Hamada, who is still president of DC Entertainment. Fisher has accused Hamada of attempting to tamper with the internal investigation WB conducted on the set of the Justice League reshoots regarding the behavior of Joss Whedon, Geoff Johns, and Jon Berg. WB even removed Ray Fisher from The Flash movie starring Ezra Miller despite Cyborg having a role in the film.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League very much serves as a Cyborg film at the center of it, as it recounts his origin story and his character has the largest arc. His final scene serves as a mirror to Superman, as his father gives the closing narration, and he flies off into the sky, deciding to use his powers for good. There was potential to explore in a future Cyborg film, and maybe years down the road, that could still be a possibility. Some fans viewed the Snyder Cut itself as an impossibility, and with Michael Keaton returning as Batman after thirty years, it is always possible Fisher could eventually return as Cyborg when management changes at Warner Bros.
