Netflix has announced a massive star-studded cast for Zack Snyder’s upcoming Norse mythology-inspired anime series, now officially titled Twilight of the Gods. The show was announced in 2020 as part of Snyder’s ongoing partnership with Netflix, which recently yielded the zombie heist movie Army of the Dead. There’s still no official word on when Twilight of the Gods will arrive on Netflix.

For a few years now, Netflix has put an immense amount of effort into developing high-quality original animated content. That’s included western-developed series like Castlevania and Blood of Zeus, as well as partnership with Japanese studios for series like Devilman Crybaby and the upcoming Godzilla Singular Point. Snyder is currently leading a couple different animated projects for Netflix, including a prequel series for Army of the Dead. Now, some big news for the mysterious other project has finally been released.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Snyder’s Norse-themed show has officially been dubbed Twilight of the Gods, and it will feature a stellar ensemble voice cast. Per Netflix Geeked, the upcoming series will star Sylvia Hoeks as Sigrid, Stuart Martin as Leif, Pilou Asbæk as Thor, John Noble as Odin, Paterson Joseph as Loki, Rahul Kohli as Egill, Jamie Clayton as The Seid-Kona, Kristopher Hivju as Andvari, Peter Stormare as Ulfr, Jamie Chung as Hel, Lauren Cohan as Inge, and Corey Stoll as Hrafnkel. Check out the official announcement below.

Fans of the fantasy genre should be pleased to see a couple Game of Thrones stars joining Twilight of the Gods in Hijvu and Asbæk, as well as a Lord of the Rings alum in Noble. There are also a number of Netflix veterans in the ensemble, including Stormare (Castlevania), Stoll (House of Cards), Clayton (Sense8), and Kohli (The Haunting of Bly Manor). Overall, it’s a fantastic cast, and one that should be well-suited to bringing one of Snyder’s high-concept epics to life.

The title of the show is also revealing, as it hints that the Norse apocalypse event Ragnarök will play a prominent role in the story. Twilight of the Gods is the title of several other prominent works of art dealing with Norse mythology, including the final part of Richard Wagner’s famous opera series The Ring of the Nibelung. Snyder has always incorporated mythological allusions into his films, but up until now they’ve mostly involved Greek mythology. It should be exciting to see what Snyder and his star-studded cast do with the Norse canon when Twilight of the Gods releases on Netflix.
