In an interview detailing her upcoming flick The Bad Guys, releasing April 22, Zazie Beetz commented on whether or not she would be returning as Domino in the upcoming Deadpool 3. After the success of 2016’s Deadpool, followed by an equally successful sequel in 2018, a third installment for Marvel’s merc with a mouth was almost guaranteed. And indeed, a third entry is on its way, helmed by Shawn Levy, which will reunite Ryan Reynolds with the director following the hits Free Guy and The Adam Project.

The Deadpool franchise follows Wade Wilson, an extremely skilled mercenary, who is diagnosed with terminal cancer and attempts to treat it by undergoing an experimental procedure that results in him becoming hideously scarred and with superhuman abilities. After donning an almost perfectly comics-accurate costume, Deadpool goes on a handful of insane adventures throughout his first two films. Beetz made her debut in the second Deadpool movie as Domino, a metahuman member of Deadpool’s X-Force with the vaguely-defined superpower of impossibly good luck. Domino served as a perfect straight man to Deadpool’s constant quipping and it seems Beetz had a lot of fun in the role.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In an interview with Screen Rant, Beetz spoke about her excitement for the upcoming Deadpool 3 and the possibility of Domino returning alongside the merc with a mouth. The actress expressed her adoration for the character and the team behind the films, stating that she would love nothing more than to return to the role, but also stating that if they decide not to revisit the character, she’d be fine with that, too. Furthermore, Beetz mentioned she’d also be open to the idea of a possible Domino solo film about the character’s origins. Read her comments below:

I am so excited. I am crossing my fingers, hoping that Domino will be a part of this and if not, that’s also all good. But it’s just such a great crew, such a great team. I just love Deadpool. I love Domino so much. If it’s not this, maybe I’ll do my own Domino origins or something like that. I would love to do something in that space and face that fear, honestly. So yeah, I’m excited. But we’ll see what happens.

After Deadpool’s move from Fox to Disney, the fate of many of the franchise’s raunchier elements were up in the air, with many audiences wondering what mature aspects would stay and which others would be discarded. In fact, many reports that came out directly after the acquisition stated that Reynolds was upset over Disney’s apparent direction for the franchise. Kevin Feige himself eventually confirmed that the sequel would maintain its R rating, settling many fans’ worries.

With Beetz herself showing interest in returning to the role, it’s entirely possible audiences haven’t seen the last of her as Domino. Furthermore, with the actress also floating the idea of potential spin-offs in the future, there are plenty of avenues with which Domino can make a return to the screen. Deadpool 3 is expected to be released in either late 2022 or 2023.
