In a funny new Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild video, Link deals with an enemy Lizalfos not with the expected swordplay, but by teaching it the game of soccer. Fans have been up to all kinds of fun side activities in Nintendo’s latest open-world RPG, so much so that players have actually started making jokes about needing to get back to the main quest of saving Hyrule from the monstrous Calamity Ganon instead of doing sidequests.

Throughout this journey, Breath Of The Wild players have uncovered neat tricks for crossing the ocean aboard Link’s Master Cycle, breaking down walls without bombs, or even obtain the legendary Master Sword early with a simple campfire and a good night’s rest. Others have lost themselves in amusing time-wasters like observing the behavior of sheep or drawing the iconic Triforce symbol on Breath Of The Wild’s in-game map with their footsteps.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Late yesterday evening, Reddit user Avalares42 posted a funny video to the r/zelda subreddit of them teaching a lizard-like Lizalfos how to play soccer with a Remote Bomb in Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. To do so, Link drops a Bomb in front of the Lizalfos, who Avalares42 has named “Jerry,” prompting the creature to knock it between two campfires with a swift swing of its tail. Once it goes in, Jerry jumps for joy and Avalares42 expresses pride in him for scoring his first goal.

The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild has been a landmark success ever since it launched on the Nintendo Switch in 2019, so much so that it is now set to be one of the few Zelda games to get a full-blown sequel, as was shown off at last month’s Nintendo Direct E3 showcase. Not much is known of the as-of-yet untitled BOTW 2’s plot at the moment, but fans have drawn plenty of theories about the game featuring a pre-villainy Ganon as a playable character and a possible romance between Link and the titular Princess Zelda.

Given how hostile Link’s enemies tend to be in The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, the fact a player has managed to get a Lizalfos to stop trying to kill him long enough to teach it the game of soccer is certainly impressive. Even more so is seeing Jerry score his first goal, as well as his cute little victory dance after the kick. With a little more practice (and a few more Lizalfos), Link might be able to build his own Hyrulean soccer team before his next big adventure.
