A Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild fan has summarized the Hyrule game map in a relatable meme, outlining various sections players can explore while poking fun at the quests, enemies, and environments contained within each region. BOTW‘s large and lively open-world is one of the game’s biggest draws, but each region comes with its own perils and pitfalls.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is home to the most expansive world in the series so far, stretching from the icy Hebra Mountains to the tropical forests of Faron. During their adventures, players will need to adapt to different climates, utilizing suitable clothing, weapons, and potions to withstand the different freezing and scorching temperatures found across the land. While BOTW‘s Hyrule offers lots of variations, some of its locations are far from perfect, whether due to the weather, NPCs, or even the BOTW enemies found within.

Redditor MasterSigma has impressed fans with their hilarious meme offering “basic facts” about Breath of the Wild‘s map. The witty user has summarized a host of different map locations using just a few words for each area, with the result offering a fairly accurate and meme-filled overview of what Breath of the Wild‘s Hyrule has to offer. The user calls Rito Village, home of the bird tribe, “KFC with extra salt,” while the encounter with final boss Calamity Ganon, residing in Hyrule Castle, is described as “overly dramatic music with easy asf boss hippity hoppity get off my property.” Zora’s Domain is listed simply as the home of “wet fish cannibals,” while the user offers a reminder to “put on your lotion” when traveling to Death Mountain. The hilarious map summary has been a hit with other Breath of the Wild fans, receiving over 4,000 upvotes at the time of writing.

While hilarious, the Breath of the Wild meme gives a very relatable overview of some of the game’s biggest flaws. The user points out how empty areas such as Gerudo Desert really are. The sandy location contains little more than a few Korok Seeds, a handful of Shrines, and the fairly small main hub that is Gerudo Town, despite the area being a fairly large one. One of the most common criticisms of expansive open-world games is that some areas can feel often feel underdeveloped or empty compared to others, and while most of BOTW‘s map feels alive, there are some locations that offer a lot less for players.

Nintendo is likely set to improve on Breath of the Wild‘s map with the upcoming release of the game’s sequel. The as-of-yet-unnamed title has been revealed to have an overworld above the ground, which should offer fans even more exploration opportunities. How exactly this sky overworld will work in the game is unclear, but Breath of the Wild 2 trailers have shown Link falling through the skies in a similar war to Skyward Sword. Fans will have to wait until Breath of the Wild 2 releases in 2022 to find out more about the game and its map.
