A player of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has showcased how NPCs react to the Tingle armor set, revealing they’ll recoil in fear should the player cosplay as the character. Zelda: BOTW holds many secret reactions and hidden dialogue, discovered only when users equip certain outfits and armor.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild is arguably one of the most detailed and realistic Zelda games to date, offering nearly endless discoveries across its large open world. Since the game released in 2017, players have uncovered an abundance of Zelda secrets, ranging from glitches and exploits to combat tricks and tips. Thanks to the game’s non-linear design, the title includes easy-to-miss dialogue and scenes that many players have missed over the years, which are in place to offer context to those who may have skipped important plot points while exploring. One such secret Zelda scene comes if users miss Impa at Kakariko Village, though many more exist within the game.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Redditor Gamblegork625 has impressed the Breath of the Wild subreddit by sharing how NPCs react to the Tingle armor set, which sees Link dress up like the Zelda character seen across previous games in the series. Donning the outfit at Zora’s Domain, the player speaks with the Goron Reagah, only to see the NPC recoil in horror as Tingle-Link approaches. The reaction demonstrates how in-depth BOTW‘s design goes, with NPCs able to respond to changing events around them.

Tingle is perhaps one of the most mysterious Zelda characters, best remembered for his love of fairies, his strange outfits, and his unique appearances and roles across the series. Despite being an unusual character, Tingle is far from an evil one, which makes the BOTW Goron’s response to him somewhat confusing. It’s possible that the reaction, typically seen when users wear the Dark Link set, was mistakenly used for the Tingle set as well, somewhat tarnishing the impressive addition of reactive NPCs.

Whether or not NPCs are supposed to recoil in horror at the sight of Tingle remains to be seen, but many players have had similar reactions to the character over the years. While a whimsical and fun character by nature, Tingle’s design and often peculiar dialogue have made him somewhat divisive, with many fearing his in-game appearances in a similar way to the Happy Mask Salesman. The mystery of NPCs reactions to Tingle might be solved with the upcoming release of the Breath of the Wild sequel, which could once again give users the chance to dress up as the Guy in Green Tights to cause havoc in Hyrule.
