An Animal Crossing: New Horizons player shared an iconic crossover outfit this week with a recreation of Link’s clothing from The Legend of Zelda series. Since its release in 2020, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has inspired players to make a myriad of creations, including others inspired by The Legend of Zelda. The game offers a wide range of customization options, clothing, and objects that allow for an enormous amount of choice when it comes to design.

The renowned Legend of Zelda series has been around since 1986, and the clothing worn by protagonist Link has remained largely unchanged since the very first entry. Referred to in most titles as either Green Clothes or Hero’s Clothes, the classic green tunic and brown belt can even help protect Link from damage in some iterations of the game. The Animal Crossing series, meanwhile, is largely about player creativity, tasking players with building up a town through design and infrastructure. The latest entry, New Horizons, has given more options to players than ever before when it comes to aesthetics, not only for players’ towns but their personal fashion choices and appearance. Players can purchase clothing in Animal Crossing from The Able Sisters’ Clothing Shop and accessories from a pop-up shop run by a skunk named Kicks to create a seemingly infinite amount of outfit combinations.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Reddit user e_to_the_m shared their own creative fashion this week with a spot-on recreation of Link’s Legend of Zelda outfit. They’ve garbed their character head-to-toe just like the classic character, from their blonde hair to brown boots. The outfit features the in-game clothing items Phrygian Cap, Sprite Costume, and Antique Boots. They’ve also included Link’s iconic Master Sword slung around their character’s shoulder, utilizing a new item sold at Kick’s called Sword in Scabbard that was added in the incredibly large Animal Crossing 2.0 update.  The character’s hairstyle was also added in the 2.0 update, included in a new hairstyle pack that was made available for purchase at the Nook Stop. Altogether they’ve created a spot-on recreation of Link’s appearance, with a character that looks ready to save the Kingdom of Hyrule.

It’s impressive that this depiction entirely relies on items offered by the game itself – the player had to diligently check the Able Sisters’ store daily in order to acquire all the pieces they needed. When it comes to recreations of fictional characters outside of the Animal Crossing universe within the game, players often need to resort to custom patterns to create a more accurate portrayal. The game’s Custom Design Portal is full of pop-culture creations, like Animal Crossing community-made Star Wars patterns, that allow for crossover possibilities within the game.

This clever Legend of Zelda-inspired creation shows the huge amount of possibilities that Animal Crossing offers its fans when it comes to creating themes for their towns and appearance. The vast item options provided by the game coupled with a huge community of players creating their own designs makes options limitless for players. Whether a fan wants to design an entire Legend of Zelda themed town, or just wants to dress up like Link for the day, Animal Crossing: New Horizons provides players the opportunity to play their game exactly how they want to.
